I have an uncle in Wisconsin. He's slightly mentally handicapped and lives in subsidized housing because of his income level.
In tribute to my Grandma (who's been gone a number of years and of whom I still miss), I send my uncle a check every month. The check is only $30.00. I believe he uses it for living expenses that aren't covered by assistance. I rarely get an acknowledgement/thank you from him - unless of course, I'm late in mailing it out.
My uncle voted for Obama. Normally, I say "Live and let live" and let it go at that. But I am thinking about telling him that effective 1/01/13, that I'm cutting his monthly check from $30.00 to $15.00 because of the impending increase in taxes that I'll be paying as a result of Barack Obama's policies.
Given that my uncle is slightly mentally handicapped, I'm wavering about this. I don't wanna appear like a cad but at the same time, I don't wanna be taken for granted and want him to know that actions have consequences.
What would you do?
If he’s smart enough to complain when you are “late” sending the check, he’s smart enough to THANK YOU each time you send him money.
I would simply stop sending the money IMMEDIATELY without notice.
Cut it if you actually have to for the reason stated but not out of a sense of vindictiveness or anger.
You didn’t mention your uncle’s age. It sounds like he might be over the hill. What kind of “lesson” can you teach an elderly person? Especially one with mental impairment?
I’d guess you probably STARTED the monthly checks out of compassion for your uncle. Don’t let disdain for his voting choice rob you of doing something noble. If you can still afford to do it; SEND it.

Have mercy on the feebleminded. Do right. I also have a cousin who is a bit retarded and votes “Dimocrat” every time. . blows her welfare check pretty much every month. I’ve helped her in the past anyway.
I wonder how many college kids were cut off today, and how many will drop out in the coming months. My son is working and will be going to Basic Training in January. But he voted “right”. :)

He’s one of the few Obama voters who has an excuse. Those who are not mentally handicapped are evil. Those who are handicapped should be forgiven.
It’s insipid, takes up too much time and is very trivial.
Although my local news station did get about 20 rants from me this morning. lol
Sounds lucid enough to me if he complains when you’re late.
Cut the payment to $15, and when he complains, tell him the other $15 is his “fair share” demanded by President Obama. We all gotta have some skin in the game, Gramps!

You are going to teach him a much better lesson if you say “Thanks to Obama I know have $4000 less per year and everything costs twice as much so I can’t afford it anymore”

You'll probably be giving the Gov. way more than the $30/mth you were sending your uncle.
It's basic math.
It's not your fault...your fellow Americans decided “others” needed the money more than your Uncle did.
