Am I Being Vindictive and/or Petty? (Vanity Post)
MplsSteve

Posted on 11/07/2012 1:27:47 PM PST by MplsSteve

I have an uncle in Wisconsin. He's slightly mentally handicapped and lives in subsidized housing because of his income level.

In tribute to my Grandma (who's been gone a number of years and of whom I still miss), I send my uncle a check every month. The check is only $30.00. I believe he uses it for living expenses that aren't covered by assistance. I rarely get an acknowledgement/thank you from him - unless of course, I'm late in mailing it out.

My uncle voted for Obama. Normally, I say "Live and let live" and let it go at that. But I am thinking about telling him that effective 1/01/13, that I'm cutting his monthly check from $30.00 to $15.00 because of the impending increase in taxes that I'll be paying as a result of Barack Obama's policies.

Given that my uncle is slightly mentally handicapped, I'm wavering about this. I don't wanna appear like a cad but at the same time, I don't wanna be taken for granted and want him to know that actions have consequences.

What would you do?

“Nobility beats hostility every time . . .” Nice sentiment, but look where that got us today. Sometimes nobility needs to give way to hostility (are you listening, Mitt?). Do you have any other contact with him other than sending him a monthly check? Is he “family” or just a relative? Are you sending it out of kindness or guilt?

And, navymom1, I feel your pain. Everyone on my wife’s side of the family is a big lib. My SIL thinks BO is cute, handsome and even sexy. They are in Oregon....and one of the reasons we are in Texas.

My grandmother was the sweetest person in the world. All she had for information in the nursing home was MSM. She thought Reagan was evil. You may have a similar situation.

Given his reduced capacity, one can possibly forgive his ignorance.

I personally have resolved to no longer tolerate any liberals or democrats. I intend to ask anyone seeking anything from me whether they voted for Obama or not. If they did, I will give them nothing and I refuse to associate with them. They are leading to the destruction of this country and I cannot provide any help or cover for them.

Yes, you are being vindictive and petty.

He is a lot more dependent on the government than on your $30 a month check. And he’s mentallly ill. Given Ryan’s talk about cutting entitlements, if I was in his position, I’d probably be voting democrat.

He’s voting to protect his interests, and it’s not about you or your $30.

When the GOP gets it’s act together and starts focusing on jobs and quits threatening entitlements, then maybe you can talk some sense to him. But until then continue helping him and don’t take his vote personally.

It’s your money to do with as you please. It’s your choice and you will have to live with it, either way. It is not for me or anyone here to criticize you for what you choose to do with your property as long as it does not involve illegal/immoral (i.e., harm to others) activity.

I’m doing it in stages.

Disconnected the land line today with no forwarding.

Got a reagan.com email address and so tomorrow the old earthlink address goes.

Going Galt.

This includes a child even.

Last time I did this was in the early 70’s after I got back from the Nam. Then, around ‘79, I relented.

Not this time.

But “Nobility beats hostility every time . . .” worked so well yesterday.

/s

I’m sorry but I’m done.

If anybody wants a new best phone friend, I’m available for fequent chats.

I can no longer deal with the fact that my current best phone friend eagerly voted for 0, *knowing* it would destroy the home business that keeps us [barely] afloat.

And yes, I’m serious.

I’d love to have a nice, new, conservative dog-loving buddy to talk to in the evenings.

The problem is the government wants to take charge of those things now so that folks won’t feel any guilt regarding their moral circumstances as they might if such charity came from the churches and religious folks! Caesar has decreed that responsiblity for the poor belongs to the government...then render that responsibility unto Caesar for Caesar will be raising your taxes anyway for it!

You said you were doing it for your Grandma. So this isn’t really about him anyway. If its for her, keep sending it for her.

I have a crazy uncle who always votes GOP, but for reasons that are incomprehensible to me. Its OK, I don’t expect sophisticated reasoning from my crazy uncle. You shouldn’t either. If he was younger and more sane I’d cut him off. As it is, though, just be a good grandson and don’t sweat it.

“...I don’t wanna be taken for granted and want him to know that actions have consequences...”

Cut it in half in January and if he complains cut it all. Tell him truthfully that you can no longer afford it and will need every cent you have to cover the increased taxes you have to pay in 2013 and afterwards because Obama was reelected.

Your total justification is in your own words, quoted above.

Well...BEFORE the election I told my nieces and nephew that if the DEMS and the O were elected any Financial Gifts would likely stop, as we will have to save for ourselves. (Trying to educate them for the past several years also...still not sure how they voted....but, THEY got the message.) And, I do not feel bad at all. Next comes the 18 yr old Grandson.
