PwC report argues for unprecedented carbon dioxide cuts by 2050

The world will have to cut the rate of carbon emissions by an unprecedented rate to 2050 to stop global temperatures from rising more than 2°C this century, a report released by PwC on Monday (5 November) showed.

PwC’s annual Low Carbon Economy Index report examined the progress of developed and emerging economies towards reducing their carbon intensity, or their emissions per unit of gross domestic product.

Global temperatures have already risen by about 0.8 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial times. Almost 200 nations agreed in 2010 at United Nations climate talks to limit the rise to below 2°C (3.6°F) to avoid dangerous impacts from climate change.

Carbon intensity will have to be cut by over 5% a year to achieve that goal, the study said. That compares with an annual rate of 0.8% from 2000 to 2011. …

And if we don’t stop eating beef, the alien hordes will attack by 2070.

Marxist doomsday prophecy and nothing else.

We can’t affect the change in temperatures on Mars either.

First it was the population explosion.
Then it was the looming Ice Age.
Then it was holes in the atmosphere.
Now it is global warming.

They still haven’t sold the Brooklyn Bridge, have they?

So how much warming would it need before Greenland was green again?

It’s really a very cheeky bit of post hoc fallacy. Nowhere near enough knowledge about the relevant factors on this terrestrial ball exists in order to be able to prove no, the globe can’t cope with a bunch of “anthropogenic” carbon dioxide generation without sweating into a fever. At best it’s a battle of models, all of which must needs vastly oversimplify.

I won’t live long enough to enjoy the irony of the world realizing that an ice age is coming and being unable to generate enough co2 to offset the cold because just doesn’t have that much of an effect.

The EU should have a temperature rise of 15000 degrees centigrade over its major cities.

And if that blows down my interent connection, I’ll be very cross.

If they cared about our tropical rain forests and vegetation all over the planet they should be pushing for more carbon dioxide. Plants thrive in it and studies have shown that just a little increase in CO2 results in remarkable plant growth. They thrive in it. The fact is that we overestimate human ability to affect climate. This world has endured millions of years with much more pollution from volcanos than mankind can ever dream of producing. The Earth can take care of itself. To even think that we can affect climate is presumptuous. Take a look down from an aircraft at 45,000 feet and you can see just how small and inconspicuous we are.

When Greenland becomes as green WITH the burn of fossil fuels as it had been many centuries ago WITHOUT the benefit of burning fossil fuels, then maybe we can begin to worry about how much is too much.

I’ve been in planes since I was a little kid. Even seconds after takeoff, you can’t see a human from the air, even though you can see cars and trucks on the highway. The whole climate change thing is 100 percent political.
