Even if we can't get rid of Roberts, the Chief Justice position rightly belonged to Antonin Scalia anyway after Rehnquist. Please correct this situation.
Can you DO that ??
I don’t think that’s possibly after being appointed and besides, the chief doesn’t do much more.
People have let their passions cloud their judgement. A lot of people have forgotten that Romney is not very conservative.
There is no power within the Constitution for the President to replace the Chief Justice.
You must be thinking of some other country, like say, Venezuela.
My guess also is that you have never read a word of the ruling which has made you angry. Or that the ruling has actually made repeal EASIER.
More vanities! Pull speed onto the rocks, FR!
Romney is conservative enough to know this is impossible.
Don’t confuse a “vanity” with an “inanity” this is the latter.
True. The euphoria at the prospect of Obama crawling on the helicopter for his last ride is making us giddy. I’m afraid we’ll see lots of working across the aisle, but it’s a start - like what do call all the lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?
I suppose it’d be rude to suggest that Freepers fought the wrong nominee in 2005.
You are right that it can’t be done. But I am curious why you defend the Obamacare ruling. That argument that Roberts is a sly dog playing chess while all the rest of us, Scalia, Thomas and the entire conservative movement, are too stupid to realize it, is deluded or intentionally meant to make excuses for a pitiful weak Supreme Court justice who had only pretended to be a conservative. The law was dead. Dead. D E A D dead. Roberts singlehandedly resurrected it, with a ridiculous tax argument that even the libs didn’t make. If you defend that, you may be in the wrong place.
I doubt Harriet Myers would have been any better. She had Sandra Day written all over her. Sure, with hindsight, we’d take her now, because we know with 100 percent certainty that Roberts is a flake. We only suspected that Myers was, and it was documented that she had a moderate philosophy. Roberts was pretty solidly conservative in everything he had ever done up to that point.
No
I just cannot friggin’ believe it . . . FR is on the ropes, and everybody (including long-time FReepers!) believes that any random thought that pops into their head deserves its own thread.
However, it is true that a tax by any other name is still a tax as Shakespeare said, Ralph Shakespeare that is.
We all saw through The Disaster's minions in Congress charade to call it anything but a tax and apparently Roberts thinks that way too.
This is the crucial effect of the ruling though, now since taxes can be part of “reconciliation” bills which cannot be filibustered this law can be changed even if we don't get a filibuster-proof majority.
I was as disappointed as everyone else about this ruling as it appeared to be a slam dunk to me.
One good thing about it, though, is that it made people even madder and more determined to get rid of this monstrosity.
He can’t do that. A federal judge is appointed, by position, for life. That is, a federal judge cannot be demoted to, say, a federal prosecutor. It would take impeachment to get rid of Roberts, and that’s not likely to happen.
You should post a thread about the necessity to avoid unnecessary threads.
Whattya gonna do people have ideas pop into their heads and just have to share them with the world.

Here I go thinking that described FaceButt.
