Speculate with me (Vanity)

Mrs. ConservativeInPa and I were just able to settle down for the evening. She just told me a story ... I went hunting this morning and while I was away, someone came to the door asking if we were going to vote. The Mrs. isn't that concerned about talking. But apparently they were planning how to handle voter turnout.

In the 20 plus years that I have lived here, I have never had problems or encountered very long lines to vote. I am thinking that whoever knocked on our door while I was gone was fishing. I have walked neighborhoods before with voter lists, and knew before I knocked on a door if the person was a D, R, or I.

So I am wondering if someone was just collecting information, or were they really concerned about a huge line at the polls and how to handle that. By the way, I live in a voting precinct that goes between 60 to 85% Republican in just about every election. Does anyone have a idea what thus might be about? I live in South Central Pa (Cumberland County) if that makes any difference.

What credentials did they have? Did they state any organization affiliation or show any ID?

Your local government (elections dept) would not be spending money to have someone go door to door - especially on a weekend.

Probably just some volunteers with a local or state campaign.

BUT . . .

Could have been somebody casing the neighborhood, or your house, with nefarious motives.

I don’t answer the door to strangers any more. I just watch them through the blinds and am not above calling police like they told us to do in Neighborhood Watch.

I don’t answer phone numbers I don’t recognize, either. If it’s important, they’ll leave a message. Lots of pollers wanted to talk to me this year; none got my opinion.

I wonder how many like me are out there and if that’s why the polls are so skewed.

But it’s more likely the Bradley affect. We’ll know soon.

Never trust anyone who comes unsolicited to your door!

I answer my door (w/ tempered glass storm door) with this, round chambered, cocked, locked, in my right hand behind the door, even if I know who’s coming by:

I’d rather have it and not need it, than not have it and need it.

Maybe if the person answering the door is old, senile, or says, “I’m not voting for either of those losers.”..the person who was soliciting info “votes” for them..or has one of their “friends” vote for them..

In 2000, a friend’s son who was serving in the military never received his absentee ballot. Just out of curiousity, he later called the Clerk’s office in his hometown and was told that he had voted.
