The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread ... there is no telling where it will go and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
By the way I told my Wife, when I left, I would be back at the Texas home to watch the Mississippi State - Alabama game tonight on ESPN. I don’t think State has a chance. I was at the 6-3 win that State had over the then #1 Alabama team on Nov. 1, 1980. We did not beat them again until 1996! So this game tonight is special to me. Both teams are 7-0. But Alabama IS Alabama and we are going to their House to play! Drats!
I guess that means you’re not a SF Giants fan... >;(((
I thought of you yesterday when we were at a apple farm and they were pressing 6 gallons of juice for a couple of young guys and they had a white bucket with a clear one way valve in the lid. I asked them if they worked at one of the local brew pubs but they said no...
I would never think of renting my house out - being so far away from it.
I missed posting my beer thread this week - no internet at the house in Ms. So will just continue next Friday at Beer Thirty!
I have been doing some Hard Apple Ciders which have turned out very Tasty! Nice and easy ! Now I understand the mission of Johnny Apple Seed!
Even I had a mutation squash in my patch like someone posted a couple of weeks ago
What beautiful pumpkins. Thanks for the pics.
One of the things I did get to see on over the air TV, while in Ms was the first two games of the WS! The First Major League Game I saw was at Candle Stick Park. My father took me and two of my young friends to a game! The big hi-lite of the the game for us was the guy selling peanuts. He was chanting “Get Your Peanuts Here!” And all of us heard it as “Get Your Peanuts Hair”! Quite funny for three young 15 year old teens! We had to tell my Dad to listen to him - he got it and laughed along with us! And we all got our peanuts Here! Hair!
As far as watching the Giants - Watching Miss State play Alabama takes first choice tonight!
I have a few really really short shoots not nearly as many or as tall as yours. Hoping mine will be done no later than June 1, but we’ll see.
The pomegranate bush in fall colors. We did harvest some of the fruit, but left quite a bit for the birds and bees. I never paid much attention to this old bush, but have a new-found appreciation of it after watching it change with the seasons this year.
I see some nice fall colors beyond the pomegranate...
Maples in red glory!
Combo of fall chrysanthemums & summer begonias, geraniums & marigolds that are still blooming.
Even the vines on the pines are really red this year.
Beautiful colors! The vines in the trees look like our fall Poison Oak?
It’s Poison Ivy ..... we’ve cut the vines on some of the other big pines to kill it & this one will be next .... but it does turn a pretty red in the fall.
It’s Poison Ivy in the east and Poison Oak in the west...
Yup ..... I’m definitely east of the Mississippi! :-)
