Chemo 'undermines itself' through rogue response (Could make cancer more resistant to treatment)

Chemotherapy can undermine itself by causing a rogue response in healthy cells, which could explain why people become resistant, a study suggests.

The treatment loses effectiveness for a significant number of patients with secondary cancers.

Writing in Nature Medicine, US experts said chemo causes wound-healing cells around tumours to make a protein that helps the cancer resist treatment.

A UK expert said the next step would be to find a way to block this effect.

Around 90% of patients with solid cancers, such as breast, prostate, lung and colon, that spread - metastatic disease - develop resistance to chemotherapy.

Treatment is usually given at intervals, so that the body is not overwhelmed by its toxicity.

But that allows time for tumour cells to recover and develop resistance.

In this study, by researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle looked at fibroblast cells, which normally play a critical role in wound healing and the production of collagen, the main component of connective tissue such as tendons.

But chemotherapy causes DNA damage that causes the fibroblasts to produce up to 30 times more of a protein called WNT16B than they should.

The protein fuels cancer cells to grow and invade surrounding tissue - and to resist chemotherapy.

It was already known that the protein was involved in the development of cancers - but not in treatment resistance.

The researchers hope their findings will help find a way to stop this response, and improve the effectiveness of therapy.

Peter Nelson, who led the research, said: "Cancer therapies are increasingly evolving to be very specific, targeting key molecular engines that drive the cancer rather than more generic vulnerabilities, such as damaging DNA.

"Our findings indicate that the tumour microenvironment also can influence the success or failure of these more precise therapies."

I came across this therapy - which is outlawed only in the US. It’s working for me and my wife. We are seeing tons of benefits over the last several months!

I watched my father die after going through CHEMO and Radiation — I saw how it transformed his body - the large amount of pills that had to be taken - the weight gain - and the final kicker - some rouge flesh eating virus that infected his catheter - and he died.

I hope you haven’t abandoned traditional science-based treatments for that quackery. That looks like the same “alternative” dietary nonsense Steve Jobs pursued when initially diagnosed.

I look at this through the prism of nationalized healthcare(coming soon here). First they tell women they don’t need mammograms , then men don’t need prostrate screening...now chemo doesn’t work. The pattern I see is Sustein’s nudge theory at work. They are going to nudge all the baby boomers right into the grave.

Nope, not all baby boomers, just the non-elite useless eater baby boomers.

Chemo is a death sentence because it kills only the weak cells, leaving behind the 0.001% of cells that are conpletely resistant.

The result is that 3-5 years after treatment with chemo, the body is overcome with tumors of 100% resistant cells, leaving the mainstream medical quacks with no effective weapon, so they send you home to die.

Dietary/herbal/nutritional treatment can of course usually deal with these metastatic tumors effectively if you get into it soon enough after the quacks give up on you.

Mamograms never did anything but make tons of money for the cancer industry. They cause more spread of cancer than they prevent.

Similar situation for prostate too. average life expectancy doing nothing after discovering the tumor is 30 years; but with standard treatment it is about 15 years maximum. (often far less)

Sorry but I don’t buy that for a minute. I know people who have been saved by early mammograms. I also know people who have caught prostrate cancer early and are still alive many years later. I am myself currently getting screenings every 6 months because I had cancer on my appendix a few years ago. I didn’t have to have chemo thank God, only two surgeries. I have often worried some about the screenings , but what else to do? They want to catch it early if it comes back. I do believe that people have to make their own decisions about these things, but soon, thanks to Obama and his commies, we won’t have that right.

Removing a tumor does not stop the conditions that created it. Only a change in diet and possibly lifestyle can stop cancer from occuring or returning.

Cancer isn’t bad luck; its wrong diet.

Would you say that to the parents of a two-year-old with leukemia?

Yeah, didn’t think so...

Yes, I definitely would; I couldn’t not say it in good consience.

It has to be said to all; people are dying from lack of knowledge.

He did somewhat. Then he stopped. What killed him was the traditional present day science. It is well published that he initially sought this treatment and the form of cancer he had a person can live 8 to 9 yrs with. He actually lived a bit longer. It wasn’t due to this “quackery”, his doctors talked him out of nutrition. I have no problem with medical scientist and the advancements they have made over the last 100 yrs. What i have a problem with are those that think a pill solves problems, that chemicals solve problems, and that nutrition has no place in the human body. We can have a “IF” discussion all the day long. Even with nutrition based treatments, there are failures. The question that needs to be asked is, was the death due to a form of cancer that was so aggressive and had done so much damage by the time the person sought this treatment that it would not have mattered one way or the other. I have a personal stake in this from my own experiences.

Also, Jobs was reported to go through streamline diets of eating only two or three types of food. One cannot confirm and state that alternative medicine killed him. There are a host of other factors here at play. Before stating such, do your research before you call me a quack for maintaining a nutrient and high vitamin lifestyle. I’m not some idiot off the street proposing we all live nicely together. Check out my website, you’ll see I have goals for national security, I despise Islam, have gone to war with multiple tours, think violence does solves problems, and think Reagan was the best President we’ve had to date beyond the founding fathers in this nation. I also know we are a Christian nation formed under Jesus Christ, and Islam and everyone else had no part in making this nation as great as it is. I hate drugs, illegal or legal and think the US public is more dependent on them now than they have ever been.

Here’s an article on Jobs: http://www.livescience.com/16551-steve-jobs-alternative-medicine-pancreatic-cancer-treatment.html

This doctor had explains it without succumbing to the big pharmaceutical companies.

“I don’t think waiting nine months for surgery was a bad decision,” Dr. Maged Rizk, a gastroenterologist at Cleveland Clinic

Some experts say that, if anything, use of alternative medicine approaches may have helped Jobs’ overall health. Jobs lived 8 years after his diagnosis.
