The more one learns about WWII, the more huge that war becomes.

All these Luftwaffe crashes in just one of several Nazi occupied countries. The Germans mostly owned Norway for more than four years.

Many crashes were mechanical failures, not combat related.

I’ve clicked on them randomly, and yes, weather, fuel, mechanical as well as combat related crashes. Interesting all the same.

Must be nice to live in a free country where them leave machine guns lying around.

Uncanny resemblance to an American .50 cal M-2.

Isn’t that a 20MM cannon?

Isn’t that a 20MM cannon? You can’t tell scale from the photo.

Back in 1982 I was able to dive on a couple of British and German destroyer wrecks near Narvik, Norway. They had some short but intense battles up there!

This is me in 1999, in front of a Japanese plane on uninhabited Pagan Island, in the Northern Marianas. There were bunkers and war wrecks all over the place. Pagan had a small but well-located fighter plane base.

The Germans lost something like half of their destroyer fleet at Narvik in 1940. The loss contributed to Germany’s inability to invade England.

Looks like someone has been regularly cleaning and oiling it for the past ~70 years.

Imagine what close-range slugfests those destroyer battles were!

Point-blank for their main guns, hemmed in by the fjords.

Cool. I saw a show on tv about Truk lagoon. It's chock full of wrecks < 60 ships and 275 airplanes >.

The Navy should name ships after battles such as this, or warriors, not after politicians.

It was worse than that, for the Germans. There was a British battlecruiser/battleship [I believe the WARSPITE or RENOWN] involved. The Germans had no chance.
