It’s almost beyond conceivable that this story could take place today.
There’d be 30+ government agencies involved before the wheels even touched the road.

Nice...on a not really all that related note, here is a comparison of the Eastern Bluebird and the Indigo Bunting:

My husband got out of the Air Force during the Eisenhower recession and went to Dunwoody Tech in Minneapolis. After he graduated we left Minneapolis and headed to his home state of Georgia and his first job as a welder with the Bluebird Bus Company in Ft. Valley, Ga. I recall he was paid $1.33 an hour!

I remember getting a raise to $1.50 and thinking I’d died and gone to Heaven. I had an apartment, a car and a motorcycle, and an outboard motor for my boat, and some money in the bank.

Cool.
I’ve driven Blue Bird’s a lot. My favorite one is still on the road, 1979 model with an 8 speed trans.

Lovely video. I grew up with the Girardin boys whose family has played a part in Blue Bird innovations (ie the TC2000 and the new micro bird) in the last couple of decades.
