Word For The Day, Tuesday, January 3, 2012

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

fusty{FUHS-tee}

-adj

1. Having a stale smell; moldy; musty.
2. Old-fashioned or out-of-date, as architecture, furnishings, or the like.
3. Stubbornly conservative or old-fashioned; fogyish.

[Fusty comes from the Old French word fust, meaning a “wine cask.” As wine casks are stuffy and smelly, the adjective is a logical association.].

I don't know how we missed the quote of the year from last March and Italy's Silvio Berlusconi, but the local paper reprinted it as one of the year's best:

"According to a survey, when asked if they would like to have sex with me, 30 per cent of women said 'Yes' while the other 70 per cent replied 'What, again?'"

What this country needs in the White House is a fusty old mossback like the late, great Ronald Reagan. I wonder if we could exhume and revive him?

Out with the fusty and in with the new. looking forward to not hearing about IOWA any longer after today. i predict a Ron Paul win, there. i did see the loathesome statement by Alan Colmes about rick santorum’s poor dead child, and although he apologized, i still can’t get over someone saying something so nasty about anyone, no matter who they were.

I know this one, Dave.

Fusty. A winter cartoon character, Fusty the No-man. (He's called Fusty because he very fustyrated from everyone saying No to him particularly the No-women who could stay frozen solid wearing a black wool coat out in the Yuma summer sun in their crummy convertibles with the cheap Fingerhut clear plastic seat covers!

Sorry to go off like that but the leisure suit still fit pretty well and it didn't smell hardly at all after a little airing out. Ummmm, Fusty!

On Dec. 31, 2011 I finally got my husband to disgorge a couple of old cars from our barn and give them to Rawhide Boys’ Ranch (Bart Starr’s Charity). One of them was fusty, but a good spray of Febreze took care of that!

It remains to be seen whether 2012 will come down to a choice between the Fusty or the Faustian...

Barack Obama keeps trying on fusty old-fashioned Socialistic ideas, failing to realize everyone can tell they STINK.

I was amused by the OWS Crowd, who had no new ideas of their own, but had to dust off the FUSTY old slogans and folk-rock protest songs of the sixties.

Obama’s World: He thinks it’s just he
His leftist ideals are all fusty
Soak the rich; spread the wealth
He’ll take care of your health
Makes us wish the dems’ choice was Old Crusty

Good one! Sorry about your Jets. I saw someone tweet that the #6 AFC seed should be given to Boise State.

Have you picked a team to root for (or hate the least)?

I sent the following letter to FOX:

I have watched and listened to Alan Colmes and his mindless
rehashing of liberal talking points ever since he was Sean Hannity’s
co-host. I don’t think I’ve ever agreed with any of his positions, but
his recent comment regarding Rick Santorum’s “taking
his dead baby home to play with” is so beyond the pale
that I am now wondering if the protections afforded by
the First Amendment should apply to him.

Like most conservatives, I watch FOX as the only
sane alternative to the networks, CNN and MSNBC.
And I understand that in order to remain “fair and balanced,”
you feel obligated to provide a forum to which allows
liberals and conservatives to debate issues. All well and good,
unless the liberals you choose are so vitriolic, so hateful,
and so venomous that they do not deserve air time.

I am joining the swelling ranks of thinking Americans who
will be boycotting your station until you sever all ties with
that disgusting creature. The next time I see him on your network
will be the last time I watch your network. I now get 95% of my
information from the Internet. I can easily make it 100%.
