Unprovoked attacks at heart of 'Knockout King' [Stay ALERT!!!]

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Matthew Quain still struggles to piece together what happened after a trip to the grocery store nearly turned deadly. He remembers a group of loitering young people, a dimly lit street - then nothing. The next thing he knew he was waking up with blood pouring out of his head.

The 51-year-old pizza kitchen worker's surreal experience happened just before midnight earlier this year, when he became another victim of what is generally known as "Knockout King" or simply "Knock Out," a so-called game of unprovoked violence that targets random victims.

Another reason for concealed carry.

Interesting how the article never mentions additional factors like "race" of the attackers or a motive - like hate.

Wonder if flash mobs are in any way related? But don't worry folks, it's just "young people playing a game".

I remember seeing this ‘game’ as early as the mid-1990’s. Ted Koppel had a clip of some thugs pulling this garbage on some poor guy walking by them. It was in Washington, D.C., IIRC. From what I’ve read in more recent stories, when a girl/woman is among the thug party, she is often the one who picks out the victim.

At any rate, your advice is excellent (i.e. keep alert). Being aware of your surroundings and keeping an eye out for potential threats can save your life. If not in avoiding a situation entirely, then at least giving you a better chance of coming out in one piece.

Situational awareness is key. Worked fine for a potential victim just last week. The man got punched. Kept to his feet. Drew his weapon and fired into the perp's belly, just as he was preparing to deliver another blow while his cohorts converged on the victim. Scattered them like cockroaches. Of course, the MSM never mentioned this as "Knock out King" gone wrong, or provided physical descriptors of the participants. The whole thing was described as being like a street corner "argument" turned scuffle.

Situational awareness is key in these situations.

I can’t necessarily prevent a fist from slamming into me, if I just turn a corner and it’s being thrown fast.

But I can, if a see a bunch of youths gathered together, head in another direction immediately and see if they follow and prepare for the possibility of having to use a weapon.

Not entirely random, no.

Still wondering why people move to get away from this kind of crap?

There will always be ghetto’s, they dstroy one neighborhood and they move on to the next. Section 8. Aint it wonderful?

As I recall, at least back then (90’s) a lot of the victims were black. Perps of course always were. I don’t know how it is now.

when a girl/woman is among the thug party

On a similar note, these thug women when in small groups of say 4 or so can be pretty bold and nasty too.

on a couple occasions I've seen them walking around a Meijers store, no groceries or anything with them, strolling down the middle of an aisle forcing everyone coming their way to step to the side.

4 once targeted me while I was carrying a loaded hand basket. As they approached they angled in my direction attempting to force me to step against one of the food shelves but just as the closest one got to me, I swung my basket back then forward and clobbered her in the knee. She yelped in pain causing the others to stop their giggling and laughing. I simply said I'm sorry and continued walking away.......

Hey Kart,et al, I just saw this, and thinking of the holiday, thought it might get buried, and thought you might want to see it. I thought this might be of interest to you, based on some posts in previous threads. Hope that you have a Merry Christmas, and that you have someone to spend it with. Take care and God bless you all!

Glad you were able to give it to the cruds before they gave it you. And you are correct, a group of “lady” thugs can be just as bad as the guys. There was a story on FR a year or two back about a group of four or five of them putting a tremendous beat down on another woman at a bar over, of all things, bad karaoke singing.

Criminy...
