Will Calvinists Vote For Romney Or Sit The Election Out If He Is The Nominee?
12/19/11 | Tom Hawk

I have been listening to a lot of Christian talk radio lately, and reading web sites of evangelicals that lean towards the Arminiasm view, and it seems like the talking heads are almost unanimous that they want a true conservative to go up against Obama next November. But when I listen to the callers and read comments by their readers on their web sites, I am learning that a vast majority will stay home and not vote if Romney is the Republican nominee. A sentiment I am quickly learning here at FR that many evangelicals who lean towards the Arminianist view cannot imagine ever voting for a Mormon as president, yet they will allow a Muslim to stay in the office.

I myself am an evangelical Christian that lean to the Arminian view, but I plan on holding my nose if Romney is the nominee. I do want Bauchmann, Perry, Santorum, or Gingrich, but if the rest of the party elects Romney then he will be the man.

Then I started listening and checking web sites of Evangelicals who lean toward the Calvinist view, and I am finding that as a whole Calvinist leaders and a vast number of those who call these shows, or leave comments on their web sites, their followers have no problem voting for Romney IF he gets the nomination. So I am learning from what I hear that a vast majority of evangelicals, Calvinists will not stay home and allow Obama a free ride if Romney is the choice.

OK, so it looks like evangelicals as a whole are supporting the most conservative candidates in the primary, but I am wanting to know if you Freepers whop lean to the Calvinist teachings will you or will you not vote for Romney if he is the Republican Nominee? Or will you do as a vast amount of the Armenian leaning evangelicals are planning on doing, and not vote? Which would allow Obama to get re-elected and guarantee that he will finish his job of destroying the Unites States of America.

Long way to get to my question, but inquiring minds want to know.

I am a Calvinist.
I will not vote for Romney.
I will not vote for Jeb Bush.
I don’t think I’ll vote for Gingrich.

I do not know for whom I will vote. I do know that I will not vote for the LEAST BAD.

The republican party election slogan: vote for our guy; he’s not as bad as their’s.

Calvinist here: I’m voting for a Republican. Admittedly, that still might leave out Mitt, but bottom line: if it comes down to Obama and ANYBODY else. The ANYBODY will have my vote.

Hopefully the lines aren’t long, as I would have to hold my nose for the duration.

At this point, I hope Mitt isn’t the nominee; but I’ll vote for ANYONE over Obama.

I will not vote for Romney, under any circumstances, against any opponent. Hold-your-nose voters are part of what’s wrong with conservatism as it stands in this country.

I will not vote for Newt or Romney or Paul for that matter. I will be seriously drunk if I have to vote for Perry. if Bachmann or Sanotrum are the nominee. I will work the phones, send money, work at “get out the vote” and whatever else it takes to get either one of them to the White House.

Well if it comes down to a Morman (Romney) and Black Liberation theology secular humanist (Obama). I would have to go with Romney, provided no viable 3rd party candidate appears. I'm certainly not going to campaign or donate to Romney, (and probably never admit I voted for him) but on election day I'll choke down the bile long enough to cast my ballot, then go home and take a long bath in Clorox...

If Romney gets the nod there will be no Christians in the general election to vote for.

I am thinking that someone could make a financial killing by making, “I Voted For Romney”, cloths pins if he is the nominee.

I can see the pictures now. They could become as historic as the paper bags the New Orleans Saint’s fans maid famous in the 1970’s,

You make Axlerod and Obama very happy. They are salivating over the hope that Barry Hussein the Marxist will have a chance to nominate more Supreme court justices and permanently change the face of this country for generations. I’m sure your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will be thrilled that you decided to not vote.
I detest Romney and would never vote for him in the primary, but whoever wins the nomination I will vote because one thing I am SURE of is that NONE of them will choose Marxists to sit on the court.

I’m Reformed and I’m predestined not to vote for Romney :)

Seriously, I want a real conservative. His cult membership isn’t as big a deal as his lack of conservative principles and smarmy used-car salesman ways.

Now... I didn’t vote for McCain either, I voted for Palin and that guy who was on the ticket with her so IF Romney gets it and IF he nominates someone as awesome as Palin to run with him then well, all bets are off.

I am a Calvinist.

One Calvinist I know is leaning towards Newt.

FOUR other Calvinists I know are supporting Ron Paul! Total insanity. I can’t talk any sense into them. Cognitive dissonance.

Myself and my house (6 voters, now), don’t have a preference at this point, although one is leaning Bachmann. The only person we WON’T vote for, even if he is somehow the “republican” nomineee - is Ron Paul. In short we’ll vote for Romney or Newt or Perry or whoever is the R nominee.

NEVER, EVER, EVER SIT OUT AN ELECTION.... I may vote daffy duck for president, but I will go and elect the tea party / strict constitutionalist house and senate candidates, along with local ones... If we have the house and senate, and they are determined to use their constitutional powers, then the president is in check.... but I will no longer cast my ballot for the least communist / socialist on the ticket... my consience will not allow me to elect someone that is a socialist, period.... mcromney is a communist lite.... no way no how...

VERY SIMPLE! - Vote for Newt in the primary and there is no worry about Mitt or Barry.

By all means - be a good citizen and vote in the primary and be thankful we have him to defeat socialism. Don't throw away what patriots fought and died for. Otherwise, consider yourself part of the problem and not the solution which 'WeThePeople' should be! It's obvious you love our country that you ask and question - now put it into practice. He needs our support - the liberals and rinos are fighting very hard to bring him down and that means 'we' go down - don't stand for it - fight back at the primary. The general could very well be too late.

Then you have no problem being enslaved in a communist America, if Romney is the nominee. After all, you would be predestined to be a slave to more then just sin.

Well your other choice will be someone who is one of, or an amalgamation of, the following: a functioning atheist, a black liberation theologist or a crypto-Muslim.

I'll take the other guy, whoever he is.

At some point this “vote for the lesser of two evils” crap has to stop. It just does. Because at this point the Republicans could nominate Satan, point out that he’s not a socialist, and use that to persuade people he’s better than Obama. When do we cry “Hold, enough”?

If it's because he's Mormon I don't know of one Protestant Christian of any denomination that will state that as a reason for them not supporting Romney. If it's because he is not conservative enough that is another story - and I don't think the percentages will be any higher than if the poll was taken of freepers.

Hm. I honestly don’t understand the relevance of one’s doctrinal leanings here, whether Reformed/Calvinist or Arminian.

If we’re American citizens, and registered to vote, we’ll probably vote. And being FReepers, we’ll probably vote the most conservative candidate.

Am I missing something?
