What is this pistol?

I was asked by a friend what this pistol is.

Here is a portion of the letter:

"On the side with the selector switch the slide is stamped with "1913 Premier = Patent". Also stamped on the slide is "P.V." and a star, both very small. There are a few more stamps, but they are small and I can't tell what they are. There are matching serial numbers on the slide and frame. The grips are made out of wood. I did not find any markings on the magazine or under the grips.

I am starting to think my grandfather brought it home from WWII." Photobucket

It looks like a Premier, model 1913, made in Spain in the early 1900’s.

I know, I know!

It looks like a Premier 1913 32 ACP from Spain. Made by Tomas de Urizar y Cia, Eibar, Spain

Yes, I noticed the great color match (brown-gray on greenish background.)

Perhaps there is a now purpose for google image drag-drop-n-search.... Interior decorators color matching miracle aid :-)

"I lost all my guns and incandescents in a boating mishap"

That is both unfortunate, and totally awesome.

As odd as it seems, the same thing happened to me.

I guess it’s just not safe to take your guns with you when you are boating.......

Now that I think about it, I may need to have a boating mishap. Of course, I'll have to go buy a boat to have the mishap with. But all my stuff would have to be reported as lost when it fell overboard and became unrecoverable. Right?

That is not a Spanish Ruby, but a French-contract copy of the Ruby made under license during WWI either in France or Spain, and was one of the primary French sidearms during that conflict. The difference between a Spanish Ruby is the location of the safety near the rear of the frame, versus the Spanish Ruby safety just behind the trigger guard. The pistol was known as “Pistolet Automatique de 7 millim.65 genre “Ruby”. There were dozens of different manufacturers, and without a list of markings there is no way to pin which one made it.
