Very interesting. Thank you for posting this. I see the thread titles you post and though I don’t always participate, you perform a really valuable, totally entertaining service. Keep up the good work.

Maureen O’Hara was stunningly beautiful. Odd to see she’s still alive while Roddy Macdowell has been gone for some time.

I’ve never seen this, though it was one of my Irish grandmother’s favorites. I’ve been watching a ton of older films this year, will have to check this out.

Hard work, deep religious conviction, loving family solidarity and the blunt eschewing of shiftlessness with not even a tiny notion of bratty entitlement expectations from an imbecilic 99%...

WOTTA CONCEPT!!!

Thanks for the encouraging words, Darkwolf.

I’ve never seen this, though it was one of my Irish grandmother’s favorites.

The timing of this release is interesting, given the coal mine strikes that currently dominate the news headlines.

Didn’t the father throw the brothers out of the house for being members of SEIU?

Yes.

Also, my mother was from Mountain Ash Wales. She loved the movie. Reminded her of home.

‘father always had a large cut of meat on the table’ for supper. This is a GREAT movie and I would encourage everyone to look out for it on TCM as it comes out periodically.

Sorta, but I wouldn’t blame him—he didn’t want his family to end up like the Yablonskis or himself like Hoffa...

...lie down with socialist dogs they say.

My oldest son and I tried to watch ‘How Green Was My Valley’ a couple of years ago. After the first hour and 15 minutes we looked at each other and simultaneously asked, “Are you waiting for this thing to get started”? We fast-forwarded through the last 20 minutes or so of the movie so as to not waste any more time. That movie stunk.

My favourite scene.

Dai Bando (Prize fighter) enters school and confronts the sadistic school master who has beaten little Huw.

"Fighting is it? Look you! I will show you fighting!"

Thrashes school master.

I note the British influence at the time. "A Yank in the RAF" and "The Bengal Lancer". and so on. Must be over a hundred old time British actors buried out there in California.

Some splendid singing from two choirs as IMDb reminds me. I do not remember whether "Cwm Rhondda" was sung in this movie though. Still, some great singing in the film. Seen over fifty years ago for myself.

LOL! What do you have against movies involving fossil fuels!

You also hated another 4 Star classic: There Will Be Blood
