According to the French Revolutionary Calendar, this is the first day of the Year 220 (starting from AD 1791) - Primidi, 1 Vendemiaire, CCXX. This day is also dedicated to the grape (en Francais, RAISIN).

We are in the year LXXXVIII of the Fascist calendar devised by Benito Mussolini. New Years Day is October 28.

Charlier said three "cutting wounds" were also visible, corresponding to the separation of the head from the body by a revolutionary in 1793. Sounds like they needed to sharpen the ax by the time the got to him.
