Question for geneticists lurking out there...

Supposing this is true, doesn’t this have significant ramifications for mitochondrial Eve?

If we were interbreeding with other hominids, wouldn’t that have the effect of pushing mitochondrial Eve further back than the first human ancestor actually was? (Because there is “foreign”, non-homo sapiens material in the mtDNA now.)

Just thinkin out loud here...

In those days, they had social networks such as Apebook,
Crag`s List and DimTwitter for pre-interbreeding connections effected by scratching on a rock and throwing it at the intended recipient.

One doesn’t need to be a geneticist to see the possibilities that the article implies. A man, seeing “Eve” swinging around a branch, might have entertained the thought of monkeying around with some truly strange.

“Talk about a political correctness nightmare...”

That is really the point....I’m surprised that the study and the hypotheses saw the light of day.

The Neandertal Enigma
by James Shreeve

in local libraries
Frayer's own reading of the record reveals a number of overlooked traits that clearly and specifically link the Neandertals to the Cro-Magnons. One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." [pp 126-127]
The Scars of Evolution:
What Our Bodies Tell Us
About Human Origins

by Elaine Morgan
"The most remarkable aspect of Todaro's discovery emerged when he examined Homo Sapiens for the 'baboon marker'. It was not there... Todaro drew one firm conclusion. 'The ancestors of man did not develop in a geographical area where they would have been in contact with the baboon. I would argue that the data we are presenting imply a non-African origin of man millions of years ago.'"

Scientific studies by eminent paleogroinocologists have proven that certain metals and minerals will short-circuit an important nerve that runs from the second finger of the left hand to the vagina.
You can find this article in the Paleontological Review, May, 2009 “The Neanderthal Vaginologues—Pass This Jobs Bill Right Away.” p. 39-2,910

My understanding has always been that Neanderthal’s exist in abundance on many NCAA football teams.

We haven’t found yet any Neandertal mitochondrial lines in the modern population. Which may mean the genetics was mostly one way - with their males, knowing the territory and thus having an advantage in hunting and tracking newcomers and perhaps attracted to the neoteny in the human females. The females who did bear young didn’t keep foreign males but in a small, closely related group, they kept the females for future breeding stock. Neandertal DNA, but no Y chromosomes at all or Neandertal matrinileal signatures.
