A man who was thrown from a skateboard while "hot-boarding" near Santa Clarita has died, sheriff's officials say.
Edward Culhane, 35, was cruising along on his skateboard while holding onto a vehicle along Cedarfalls Drive near Urbandale Avenue Saturday evening when he lost his grip and hit his head on the ground.
The driver, 33-year-old Ryan Howell, is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Los Angeles County sheriff's said.
Howell was arrested and booked for felony DUI.
'Hot-boarding' is a dangerous stunt involving a skateboarder being towed behind a moving vehicle. A San Diego County man was critically injured while hot-boarding on May 1 in Ocean Beach after he collided with a pickup truck.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Det. Jeff Maag at (661) 255-1121.

Bad things happen when people do The Stupid.
In Middle school my brother and I would do this behind a bike and take corners in a way to wipe each other out but it always ended up on a neighbors lawn.
Way past time to give up the board."
He just did.
Darwin at work.
There is no information about Mr. Culhane’s personal life such as whether he was married and if he had children. There’s no way to know if he got a Darwin award or not.
The story does not mention whether the drunk driver was purposely towing Mr. Culhane or even knew he was hot boarding.
How are the road conditions in Los Angeles these days? Did a lack of government funding prevent the repair of pot holes and other road irregularities and thus cause this death?
As is more and more typical these days, news stories fall far short of the former high standards of journalism.
Yes. I used to run my dog while riding a skateboard. Man can she fly. She was my "hot ride" until the day I fell going somewhat slow and darn near separated my hamstring. At 43, I was definitely too old to be on a skateboard. She can still fly, but now I use a bike with brakes.
Let Patriots, North, South, East and West unite. We must if this nation is going to survive. I take it that you want that. So do I.
No one wants a war. But more and more people want to be left alone.
My favorite is the “Chin Skid.”
Wow, I think I aced all 3. I spent my thirties playing video games, hanging out at the bar, and skiing/mountain biking/rock climbing. I didn’t know that any of them were bad things though, let alone all three. I’m spending my forties the same way, but they’re almost up. Hopefully, I’ll settle down in my fifties and have more bar time.
Please be careful as to what you write.. Eddie Culhane was a good friend and awesome father... As for being 35 and on a skateboard... Eddie was in far better shape and muscular structure than most athletes, and his age had nothing to do with the accident. Please use a forum to understand and not condemn or criticize.. because you have no damn idea.
Thank you Mr. Howard.
Sorry for your loss. People need to think before they write comments on events, when they don’t have the facts.
I have been guilty of the same thing however.
At 35, he should have known not to get pulled by a car.
Unless you're Tony Hawk and making millions off of it.
