I was told that same thing by a Texan when I was on on a business trip several years ago. I drove along ways just to try it. Wow, what a let down. I was like Joe Biden, Is this a joke?I felt the same way after my sister-in-law had us go to IN-N-OUT. Nothing special.

Same here. Hubby loves em, me not so much. Hey, cut him a break here. I bet he loves you almost as much as them.

something about the name brings out the 13 year-old in me ;-)I remember seeing a few bumper-stickers with the "B" and "R" covered/removed when I lived in Tucson. I don't remember there being an In-N-Out there when I was there, but I remember the stickers.

“Whataburger is better.”
In San Antone in the 60’s, Whataburger was fantastic, even Dairy Queen tried to copy their recipe.
However, I tried a couple different WB franchises in San Angelo and Kerrville and was underwhelmed. I was embarrassed because I had talked it up to my friend from NC and it was pretty average. Same thing with DQ, all these joints are regressing to a low average to compete with MacD and BK.

This pretty much exemplified my experience trying to assemble stuff from IKEA.

Compared to McDonalds, BK, Jack in Box and Wendy, In-N- Out is a lot better, IMO. But it's not like a gourmet burger or anything.
This thread is making me hungry. There is an In-N-Out within walking distance.
Later.

Compared to McDonalds, BK, Jack in Box and Wendy, In-N- Out is a lot better, IMO. But it's not like a gourmet burger or anything. No doubt. It certainly was better than those. For the price range, it's in my top five - Whataburger, Blake's Lottaburger (Albuquerque, NM area), The Big Bun (Boise, ID - not sure if it still exists), and Arctic Circle (small chain in the intermountain northwest) - round that out. In the next price tier, it would be Big Judd's (Boise, ID), Twisters Grill (Albuquerque area), and Five Guys. Big Judd's is my overall favorite.

In-N-Out Burger is on my bucket list. I may get a chance to go out to California in the next year or so, if so I WILL try it.
There are still a lot of regional chains that in their own market will compete well against the larger national corporations.
I can think of several here in the Cincinnati-Dayton area and in the Midwest that have varying degrees of “cult” following.

Arctic Circle? They are still around?
My very first real job was at an Arctic Circle in Grand Junction, Colorado.

According to
this, it appears there are around 70 locations - most of them in Utah. There aren't any left in Colorado, apparently.

John 3:16 on the bottom of every cup! That's the only reason I'd stop and buy one. I probably make much better burgers at home.

I haven't seen anything like this here in the Metroplex, since the first IKEA came here. That much excitement, huh? Sounds like they're going to be a huge success in Texas. Good for them.
