Why was this Herman Cain article pulled from FR?
Vanity ^ | 8 May 2011 | Notary Sojac

This article was pulled for copyright violation

http://004eeb5.netsolhost.com/hc133.htm

I have searched the list of copyright complainants on the FR main page and "NorthStar Writers Group" is nowhere in evidence.

Can I post this article?

Can I link to it from within a thread?

How can I point Freepers to the specific statements made by Herman Cain in this article, some of which he may now regret??

I guess he’s referring to Citigroup. That’s the only bank I recall the government nationalizing... Unless you consider the FDIC receiverships “nationalizing,” which I do not.

Maybe it has to do with the little link on the bottom of the article asking for money to reprint their article...

From the bottom of the article that you posted:

Hmm, good point. Unless I hear otherwise, I assume that it’s ok to post just the URL.

Maybe you didn’t see that you were breaking the law. You have republished an article without permission.

“breaking the law”

No he wasn’t “breaking the law”. Adding a line to the bottom of their article does not make them immune to fair use laws.

I’m sure a paragraph or two with a link is always fair use.

I haven’t heard of Northstar but on the page you linked to, it says that you can’t reproduce any of their articles without paying them and takes you to a page that has prices for paying.

Tell that to groups like RightHaven. While you technically may be in the right, they will tie you up in courts so much, you will have lawyers fees or a settlement equal to if fair use didn't exist.

They can’t sue for paraphrasing. So paraphrase and just provide a link.
