Vanity: Why is FR shilling for Donald Trump? I thought this was a conservative site?

Someone please explain. Name me one conservative principle he stands for and has stood for through the years. I get that people like seeing him slap around Obama and push the birther issue. But why make excuses for the fact that he's moderate to liberal? He's given lots of money to Democrats, called George Bush evil and said Nancy Pelosi should have impeached him. He's advocated for universal healthcare and supported a wealth tax. He's trashed Paul Ryan's budget and thinks slapping a tariff on China will solve our entitlement problems.

The guy is not a conservative. Why are so many on Free Republic shilling for him? Where was Trump during the 2010 election? Which tea party candidates did he support? The answer is zip zero nada. He gave money to Harry Reid not Sharron Angle. He gave money to Charlie Crist not Marco Rubio. But now the narrative is he's a tea party conservative bucking the Republican establishment? Oh please pass me a bucket. Do people not believe that a solid conservative can beat Obama? Do people here believe we need to run a moderate to beat Obama? Didn't we try that two years ago with John McCain? Aren't we trying to avoid that this year by not supporting Romney? Can anyone really say that Trump is more conservative than Romney?

Oh and before anyone asks who do YOU support, I love Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain. And I hope Paul Ryan changes his mind and decides to run. Also if Alan West or Marco Rubio decided to get in the game I could support either one of them too.

Yeah I want the GOP to take it to Obama. But Donald Trump is not the answer. He is not conservative. Real conservatives were beating up on Obama long before Donald Trump came on the scene. And they will be doing it long after Trump leaves the scene and makes his next PR move.

I'm stunned that people are taking Trump seriously about a presidential run.

Well, I'm stunned that people take Trump seriously period. I mean... it's Donald friggin Trump. Come on, people. His casino went broke. A CASINO.

I’m with you 100%. Hating Obama isn’t enough to win my primary support, heck 70 of America is tired of his game last I checked. Doesn’t make you righteous, let alone electable.

My first guess is that the number of FReepers commenting positively on Trump is due to the fact that he seems like the only person willing to (metaphorically) thump on the president. All of the so-called “leaders” in the Republican ranks cave at the first sign of friction.

No, I do not think he is the right person for 2012. I'm just observing the world from my small patch of it.

My guess is that it is because Trump did in 2 months what the GOP couldn't do to 0bama in 2 years. Actually force him to be accountable.

Trump's direct, brash, in-your-face style of doing things, and more importantly, getting things done, also has a lot of appeal for people who are sick of politicians who always wiggle away from making hard choices or doing the right thing.

I agree with you that Trump is no conservative, but by definition, he is far, far better for the presidency than 0bama could ever dream to be, and while he might not be my choice in the primaries, if he is the GOP nominee, I'd vote for him.

Trump is getting support for attacking the racist in chief.

Most of us are not supporting Trump beyond the "free speech" thingy. Really, I say "Go Donald!" and then get out of his and Oba-I WON's way. Let them shred each other... and pass the popcorn, will you? It's a side show. Let's enjoy the freaks.

No way I’d vote for Trump.

But I am enjoying the show.

I have been here since 1998. I spotted Trump as a phony the first day. Most of us from 1998 saw right through him.

‘Yeah I want the GOP to take it to Obama’

Well the fact is, the GOP will NOT take it to Obama.
Have the cowards done so in three years??
Trump has done more in three weeks than the cowardly Republicans in three years.

Most of us are not for Trump as POTUS. We just delight in him rattling the Marxist/Muslim usurper’s cage.
Death by a thousand paper cuts...
I don’t really think Trump intends to run. He’s just messing with Obongo because he CAN.
He’s enjoying the attention, his power and publicity for his TV show.

If you don’t understand the ins and outs of politics by now, you never will.

Maybe someone else has more endurance than I.

Because he’s the only one willing to smack Obama in the face right now.

Maybe the mealy-mouth GOP types should take a hint.

And BTW, Trump has no chance to win the nomination, so chill out. Enjoy the show.

Exactly, enjoy the show! Trump is a moderate who moves to the right now and then, sorta like commie clinton, who moved to the center now and then. Trump may not even enter the race, but if he does, I expect him to drop out down the road. Finally someone to stand up and bring offense to the commies runnin’ the Country into the ground.

“.........I agree with you that Trump is no conservative, but by definition, he is far, far better for the presidency than 0bama could ever dream to be,..........”

Seems to be a recurring theme of the “Trumpeteers”.

Apparently Obama has redefined the presidency of the United States down sufficiently that Trump qualifies more than Obama.

Because he’s telling them what they want to hear. Pretty pathetic if you ask me. Not surprising however for those who remember the “Daily Dose” threads. All Trump has to do now is get some pics taken clearing brush from his “farm” wearing a cowboy hat.

I would never vote for Trump in the primaries....

I would try to vote 10 times for Trump in the General election if he were the republican candidate.

zer0bama is the reason I would.

You think Trump is just going to go away? I’m afraid he’ll go third party and then we’re really screwed. I’m glad he’s smacking around Obama. But let’s not make excuses for his liberalism. I see a lot of that around here. I mean when Mark Levin gets trashed and Trump praised I feel like it’s an alternate universe. Certainly nit conservative.
