Brilliant mind of the Germans!
Looks like we Americans will have to do something similar if the 2012 incandescent bulb ban holds.

I expect that in 2012 organized crime will be dealing in contraband light bulbs, high flow toilets and cigarettes and find a ready market with US consumers.

It's one of those: “why didn't I think of that” things.
Incandescent bulbs can actually be more efficient heaters, than such convection heaters as baseboard heaters, or forced air heat. If you use one as a reading lamp, it radiates heat on you, as you read. Radiant heat makes you feel warmer, at lower air temperatures, compared to convection heaters.
Around here, we need some supplemental heating at least 8 months of the year. The CFL bulbs save us absolutely nothing — except for our porch light, of course.

In the winter, I use one in a goose neck desk lamp to keep my mouse hand warm.

As I understand it, things like oven bulbs, flood lights and some higher wattage bulbs are exempt.

In the winter, I use one in a goose neck desk lamp to keep my mouse hand warm. You are obviously a genius because I do exactly the same thing with a 250W heat bulb.
You don't have to keep the whole house as warm as you like it in the spot you're sitting and you get a nice warm glow. It's just like sitting in the sun...almost.

You cant heat a chicken coop with a fluorescent bulb. Hey pal, I'll hook you up a 3 phase, 480 volt metal halide light that'll not only keep your chickens warm, but you can turn the rheostat up and bake 'em when your ready to eat 'em..:=)

A German entrepreneur is bypassing a European Union ban on light bulbs... He may be a German, but his spirit is American. We need immigrants like this man. Too bad he had to import the bulbs er heaters from China. Well, people expect Chinese heaters to explode anyway, so no nasty surprises.

In Japan the low tables have a skirt and underneath two
or three 100 watt bulbs, you sit on the tatami with your
knees and hands under the skirt, works pretty well.
At least forty years ago when I was there.
Jeez, it’s been that long!

You cant heat a chicken coop with a fluorescent bulb. Or the pumphouse, either.
First line of defense is a 60W bulb, which is often enough to keep the heat tapes on the pipes from kicking in.
