Our Career Politians Vs. Political Representatives

America has elected a body of "Career Politicians." But what does that mean? Sure they all have grandious plans for having their name in history books. They enjoy power and fame. They like the spotlight and attention. The perks and bennys aint bad either.

But what has it done to our country? It's a rhetorical question really. Better: What should the elected leaders of our nation be?

The typical politician today sets his/her sights on politics somewhere before starting college. They must attend Harvard or Yale. They must get a law degree. They must be academic. It's super great if their resume has "Military" on it. Then what? A Career Politician must adapt his own views, agenda, appearance and even opinions and character to fit a model he/she thinks will best appeal to a consituency that must elect them. Isn't that what all of us do in a way in our own careers? We all want to be what our superiors want and expect us to be. For us, it's a good career move. For a politician, it equals tunnel vision, lack of focus, out of touch rational and just plain bad governance. Today we have a governing body that votes on 2,000 page legislative measures that radically impact the lives of almost every citizen without reading them. I would be curious to know how many of these Yale and Harvard grads/lawyers that run this nation have actually read 1) The constitution 2) The Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers 3) The declaration of Independence.

What about this? What if ordinary American's, with the gumption and ambition were to patriotically engage themselves in politics in an effort to keep America strong for their children and grandchildren? You might get business owners, doctors, CEOs, Generals, Pilots, etc. actually looking around and saying, "I think my views and ideals are very representative of many potential constituence in this state/city/county/country." We might end up with some pretty experienced, articulate and selfless individuals volunteering to serve.

Wouldn't it be great if politicians didn't have to pretend in order to get re-elected but could instead be who they are and hold fast to their own morals, values, ideals and experience in real life. A certain Governor in the North Eastern part of the US comes to mind when I think of what great potential our nation has for real leadership.

What if the Tea Party movement sparked a sudo-revolution that inspired just the kind of folks I write about here? What if that is already starting to happen? Has the sleeping giant begun to clear it's throat? I guess we won't know for sure for several years.

I am starting to feel a glimmer of "Hope." Obama might actually be delivering on that Hope and Change thing, just not in the way American's anticipated.

I was thinking this too just today.
We need to start identifying these self-servants on both sides as “career politicians.”

Career Politician = Political Corruption

There should be no such thing as a career politician!

We have to be willing to elect people based on what they believe and want rather than their resumes. The focus on resumes made sense when we were more united as Americans on core values, God, Country, Family. Now all three are in dispute. Now idealogy matters more than resume. The Democrats have known that for decades and will support Rangels, Clintons, Kerrys, etc. regardless of the lies, crimes, and abuses because they know that what matters is that they are reliably liberal. We need to be harder nosed about this idealogical divide. The left has gotten a freer ride than the right does because of their control of the media, but that is slipping away. We organize now on the net and in our home towns and communicate here and in 10,000 (100,000?) websites and e-mail lists.

If we could finally turn off the boob tube liberal channels and cancel the lib subscriptions (”we” being ordinary Americans that are patriots) one of the last vestiges of their control over the minds of Americans would be lost . . . because the money would be lost. Liberals work for power, money and status and if they don’t get that they don’t work. We volunteer and take the slings and arrows they shoot at us for it.

The most craven of them, like Lindsey Graham, seem to safely combine their law and military careers as military JAGs, before moving on to political office.
