The badly decomposed body of a woman found in a chimney flue has been identified as a local doctor, authorities said Monday.
Dr. Jacquelyn Kotarac had been missing since last week, a day after she went to the house of a man whom she had been dating, Bakersfield police Sgt. Mary DeGeare said. Kotarac went to the mans house in the 4300 block of La Mirada Drive Wednesday evening and was reported missing by her office staff Thursday morning, DeGeare said.
DeGeare said she wasnt sure what the status of the relationship was whether they had been broken up or not when Kotarac went to the house. The man, however, didnt want to see her and left the home unnoticed to avoid a confrontation as she tried to force her way inside. DeGeare did not release the mans name, but the resident of that house is listed as William Moodie and neighbors confirmed that was the name of the man living there.
On Saturday, a woman at the house noticed a bad odor, DeGeare said. The woman, who was checking on the fish tank, investigated and saw fluids in the fireplace. She got a flashlight and looked up the flue and realized there was a body stuck there, DeGeare said.
Bakersfield firefighters spent five hours dismantling the chimney and flue from the outside of the home from Saturday to early Sunday to get to the body, DeGeare said. Detectives initially investigated the death as suspicious, but police said Monday that all the evidence indicates Kotarac voluntarily went to the roof, removed the chimney cap and slid down the flue feet first.

I posted it just because I don’t get it.....
NAPL?
If you get stuck in a chimney, is it too much to ask that you SCREAM YOUR HEAD OFF FOR HELP??
We'll ya see, she crawled down into the chimney feet first and got stuck. Then died. She started stinking and next thing ya know, they found the good doctor!!
I guess she forgot to get her flue shot.
Ya, he just kept turning up the tv and radio...And acted surprised when she was found.
They are reporting her Mom is Doctor Laura.
Voluntarily?
I can see these police saying:
"No, there wasn't a robbery. Mr. Smith voluntarily gave his wallet to the man with the gun."
Apparently her purse was found in the next door neighbor’s yard. Since a woman who was planning on climbing down a chimney would theoretically leave her purse in her car or something instead of in the yard, it leads people to speculate that the boyfriend killed her and stuffed her down the chimney as a cover up.
Still think flue shots are silly?
How did someone that dumb get to be a doctor???
Didn't use enough K-Y, either.
Curious people want to know whether she is related to former astronaut Lisa "Wakjob" Nowak.
If I'm reading the story correctly, she went down the chimney Wed. night and was found dead on Saturday. Any indications that she broke her neck or anything? It sounds like she must have died pretty quickly, if she's already decomposing by Saturday.
It’s a helluva way to commit suicide - that’s what’s so confusing !
As an MD she could get filled ANY prescription....
Would the doctors prints not be on the ladder?
Or are you suggesting the boyfriend threw her over his shoulder, climbed up on the ladder to the roof, and in front of all the neighbors, stuffed the good doctor down the chimney?
Hmmmm..
It seems that there might be better places to stash bodies than your own chimney. Among other reasons, climbing a ladder, on to the roof, with over 100 pounds of "dead" weight isn't exactly discrete.
Of course, since a man is involved the default assumption is that he killed her.
Okay, so she had money trouble too. A clearer picture emerges: heartache will make you snap, yes, but money trouble is 100 times worse. JMHO.
HA!
Thanks for your explanation.... but I still don’t get it - I mean the BIGGER PICTURE !
