Gov. Rick Perry sounded some familiar themes in a speech today at the National Council of La Raza conference in San Antonio.
Some of the governor's remarks were aimed at appealing to nearly 2,000 audience members who sat waiting to hear about his positions on immigration reform, Arizona's controversial law and raising the quality of life for Latinos.
After hitting his typical points by touting job creation and the state's economic standing, Perry briefly touched on the new Arizona law that has been criticized by some who say it encourages racial profiling and discrimination.
He said the law "may be right for Arizona but it ain't exactly right for Texas."
The comment drew applause from attendees though Perry did not specifically say what part of the law was not "exactly right" for the state. He also did not make any promises to veto similar legislation in the state.
Perry repeated his criticism of the federal government's approach to border security. He said Texas has invested in keeping its residents safe from spillover violence because the federal government failed in its duty.
And, he said, the federal government's failure to secure the border is the reason states like Arizona have taken on immigration policy.
"Until America secures the border, a rational debate on immigration policy is not going to happen," Perry said

LOL!! Thats a good one!!
It aint exactly right - ya gotta replace all those Arizona references with Texas. THEN itll be exactly right.

You don’t REALLY believe that’s what Perry meant, do you?
Only because your silent, and accept this.

Who accepts this? From looking that this thread, it’s not Roofgoat. Roofgoat isn’t on this thread getting all offended and throwing a hissy fit because someone from out of state dared to post an article about Perry’s blatant pandering to La Raza.
HELL, no! That’s what I meant!
Colonel, USAFR
This place is full of that...
Your state is underwater with illegals, libs and RINOs.
Yep, and their don't mess with Texas shtick is from a litter campaign a few years back.
And not to pick on Texas, let's face it, all states are fighting a war on all sides. Any state can get inundated.
Agree!
But as a fella who lives in the country, I am not naive enough to think that a state, region or town, no matter the reputation, cannot be taken over by illegals.
I did misread your post earlier.
For that, my humble apology roofgoat...
BTW, this is the first time I've ever apologized to a roofgoat... I love that name!
How absolutely disgusting and sickening.
Perry legitimizes an organization committed to taking part of America over and making a separate nation of it...La Raza is an anti-American, treasonous organization.
The best candidate in the race for Texas governor is someone I know personally and who is also a Freeper. Kathie Glass is the libertarian candidate. You will not find more loyal Americans, or constitutionally knowledgable Americans than Kathie and her husband.
I hope she can get into the debates with Perry and the Dem candidate. She would eat them alive.
I hope she also makes a press release condemning his appearance for what it is.
no problem dragnet2.
Given the nature of politics in today's America, that will probably be the reason she is shut out from the debates.
To be honest, I find even some of the debates to be tainted with rigged and planted questions.
How many people has La Raza lynched, smart guy.
Perhaps you prefer Bill White? Or maybe Losertarian candidate Kathy Glass?
Perry is endorsed by Sarah? Are you saying she is wrong?
Conservative Texans have had their say, and we chose Rick Perry. Butt out of our state’s business.
So tell me, is she truther trash like her friend Medina?
Then perhaps you should find another site.
the Sabine River ???
Many of them come to Louisiana with Texas Plates,,,
Why do we have to pay for ya’ll’s Crooks???
Please keep your trash in your own yard...
The alternative is White......again we Texans must select the cleaner turd.....
Returning to his RINO roots, Governor Goodhair couldn't wait to get in line and stab himself in the back! Gov. Goodhair is on shakey ground in Texas and most Texas conservatives (myself included) would throw him under the bus in a heartbeat if there were another, better, more conservative candidate around.
For the life of me, I will never understand the motivation of politicians who can't wait to show up at racist events (La Raza means "The Race" for those who have avoided learning any Spanish) to pander to hardcore racists. So, I pose this question to Gov. Goodhair - Would he appear at a convention for the National Council of Whiteys?? If not, why would he appear at a racist event that is sponsored by racists (not just Mexicans, but also African-American groups as well) to the detriment of America, the world's melting pot???
If we elect Perry we won’t have the guy that conspired with the Obama Administration to shut down oil refining in Texas. That was White. Perry ain’t perfect, but he’s a lot better than White. I went through this last time. It was a choice of Perry, one Nutty Grandma, or Kinky, who thought Willie Nelson should be secretary of energy. There was a Rat running also, I forget his name.

But, if Perry isn’t willing to stand against illegal immigration — if he isn’t even willing to stand beside Governor Brewer and Arizona who IS standing against illegal immigration — how is he going to do right by Texas? Ultimately, won’t Texas end up in the same place, just at a slightly slower pace?
She endorsed Perry for purely political reasons because in the state he will beat White. Kathie is far more the conservative and deserves such endorsements, but because of the reasons articulated by Texans on this very thread, she has gone with Perry.
They are afraid that endorsing a third party candidate like Kathie...who BTW is not mixed up in the 911 craze at all...is of course because they are afraid to split the vote and hand the election to White.
As a native Texan myself, I understand this sentiment...but it ends up getting you someone like Perry who is on the record with an immigration policy and others far outside what Palin herself talked about in her interviews with Greta and O’Reilly. And the better candidates never see the light of day.
So politically I understand full well the endorsement of Perry. Since Kathie is in the libertarian party and Palin in the GOP, there is no real expectation that she would endorse Kathie. But I do, because I know her. My endorsement of her is nor likely to make a difference...I simply hope it will cause a few more of my fellow Texans down there to look at her and perhaps in larger numbers encourage her to run differently in the primaries next time.
Until high level people with the visibility and large following like Sarah begin voting and supporting principle over party, these candidates will not get the exposure or chance they need. But in the current overwhelming two party system I do nit expect that to happen any time soon.
Perhaps Kathie should have tried the GOP ticket in the primady like Ron Paul does...that is also a potential answer that gives someone like her a chance in the current political environment, and makes it easier for someone like Palin to notice her and potentially endorse her.
So...if I had been Palin I would have earlier urged someone like Kathie to run on the GOP primary where I could safely endorse her. that’s because I know Kathie and her husband personally. Sarah doesn’t, so she would have had to come to her attention to do so.
