(Texas) Governor speaks to La Raza
Texas Capitol Report ^ | July 10 2010 | Texas Capi

Posted on 07/13/2010 3:04:56 PM PDT by chicagolady

Gov. Rick Perry sounded some familiar themes in a speech today at the National Council of La Raza conference in San Antonio.

Some of the governor's remarks were aimed at appealing to nearly 2,000 audience members who sat waiting to hear about his positions on immigration reform, Arizona's controversial law and raising the quality of life for Latinos.

After hitting his typical points by touting job creation and the state's economic standing, Perry briefly touched on the new Arizona law that has been criticized by some who say it encourages racial profiling and discrimination.

He said the law "may be right for Arizona but it ain't exactly right for Texas."

The comment drew applause from attendees though Perry did not specifically say what part of the law was not "exactly right" for the state. He also did not make any promises to veto similar legislation in the state.

Perry repeated his criticism of the federal government's approach to border security. He said Texas has invested in keeping its residents safe from spillover violence because the federal government failed in its duty.

And, he said, the federal government's failure to secure the border is the reason states like Arizona have taken on immigration policy.

"Until America secures the border, a rational debate on immigration policy is not going to happen," Perry said

As described, it sounds to me like he hedged a little but didn’t pander.

Perhaps it’s on YouTube somewhere so we can decide for ourselves?

So tell me, O transplant, who has a chance of beating White in the Texas gubernatorial race besides Perry?

Should folks throw away a vote on a “good” candidate who has no chance of winning?

Bill White appreciates that.

I’m not one to scream “Dump the RINO” every time a Pub does something disapointing, but he never should be speaking to La Raza (”The Race” -aka The Klan With a Tan) in the first place.

The problem is that you had a conservative who challenged Perry in the primary, but was called an Alex Jones crackpot and lost.

Rick Perry is Charlie Crist in boots.

The NAACP was busy denouncing racist organizations today. Did they get around to The Race?

I’ll assume you do not know much about chicagolady but I would be respectful towards her.

She has more stones than 99% of the men here and she has stood up face to face many times against the evil (LaRaza, hatefilled Chicago media, etc) that insists on calling anyone racist who wants border security.

Let’s just say she does more than sit behind the computer and thumps her chest. She faces it head on.

.
Could Gov. Goodhair not have been more specific why the Arizona law is not applicable to TX?

No, I did not say that. I would not tell anyone who to vote for. But you gotta know what they are saying and I like my politicians sticking up for American Citizens, NOT illegal aliens.

There is always time for you good folks to hold his feet to the fire and show up at his campaign meetings and tell him what you really think....THAT is OUR job!

Saying he is a spineless jelly fish is just reality.

Veterans who never even knew us gave their lives for our freedom, I thank God for them. THAT’s leadership and Sacrifice, which is what I have come to expect from someone who wants to lead in a Nation that is falling apart.

Exposing those who want to be at the helm for Americans but will not stand up for them is disgraceful, I do not care what state it’s in.

I would be respectful towards her.

You go ahead.

She hasn't just shown up in your state talking smack about the only candidate we have to defeat the dems.

Knock your little Missouri self out.

Saying he is a spineless jelly fish is just reality.

Yeah, whatever.

Name the candidate other than Perry that can defeat White.

That's the choice. Perry or White.

Sure, there may be some obscure Winkleheimer that is PERFECT but will only get eight votes.

Let's be realistic here.

Rick Perry — really? Huh...? If I were a Texan, I wouldn’t vote for Governor this fall. I mean, what’s the point? After his refusal to support Jan Brewer over the Governor’s Conference this week... And MAN has he been quiet on illegal immigration since he won the primary...So, even if he IS reelected — what has Texas got?

How about just all you Texan’s he up to the capital, surround the place, camp out, and demand they turn Perry over to you. What you do with him when/if you get him is up to you Texans, but SURELY you can find somebody better than his Democrat opponent (or Hutchinson, or ROn Paul!) to replace him..? I mean, it’s TEXAS for heaven’s sake!!
