In one of the most outrageous displays of arrogance by Washington in recent memory - which is saying a lot, of course - the House Democrats have inserted specific language on top of $10 Billion in funding for education included in a War Supplemental bill targeted directly and solely at Texas - language that demands the money be spent in certain ways.
According to the Houston Chronicle, The proposal would allow the federal government to give money directly to school districts, provided Perry certifies that the federal support will not replace the state money. Perry must also agree not to proportionally cut education funding more than any other item in the next budget. While the measure includes $10 billion in education funding nationally, Texas is the only state that must make such a certification before receiving the federal funding.
The thing is, besides being an affront to federalism and our right to live free from far away know-it-alls in DC telling us what to do, Perrys office makes the good point that, [t]he House-passed version requires that the governor guarantee the Legislature will provide a certain level of state funding, which is prohibited by the Texas Constitution
Llolyd Doggett (D-TX), who never misses an opportunity to expand the reach of liberals in Washington (see, e.g. his stubborn and senseless involvement in the judicial nominations process and ridiculous criticisms of Senator Cornyn), complains that Perry misspent $3 Billion that should have been used for education. But, in truth, Texas used the funds exactly the way every other state used them. They were passed through to school districts through state formulas.
Whats really going on is that the statists are aggravated that Governor Perry keeps telling the Feds to stuff it when he believes it is better for

Can Gov. Rick challenge this law in court?
Tell the Feds and Obama to keep their damn money
I’d called a press conference and on live television tell Congress and Pres—ent Obama to ‘suck my b@lls’ over this.
Well, it’s more like “Tell the Feds and Obama to keep our damn money,” but, even so, I agree with you.
This clearly demonstrates one of the major things wrong with how our CONgress is so terribly jacked-up.
What the heck does education spending have to do with a war funding bill? Absolutely nothing. But this is how pork barrel garbage (earmarks in particular) get through. While this may technically be “legal”, it certainly isn’t moral. Even supposedly “good” additions have no place being attached to non-related pieces of legislation.
And to top it off- using this to violate a state’s sovereignty. Will Rick stand up, or lay down?
First it's AZ now it's TX....
Who is next?
Stephan F Austin.
Lloyd Dogget is The Texas version of Dennis Kucinich. Unfortunately for us, that A$$clown is in a very safe district in the Peoples Republic of Austin.
Hey DC, you’re in over your head with Arizona. Now you’re picking a fight with TEXAS?!
Dumb dumb dumb dumb!

Our delegation would love to attend the constitutional convention, and thank you so much for hosting.
Sincerely,
Jan
People make fun of Good Hair. And in the past he’s been wobbly on some issues. But he is openly listening to Texas sessesion people, and he’s been standing up to DC. For example, he’s made it clear that he wants Texas to have an AZ style immigration policy.
That anti-DC attitude is why he beat KBH so handily in the GOP primary.
Perry is NOT going to roll over.
Perry has to kind of play it cool to stay in school as the expression goes until after the election.
What you may not realize is there are “Freepers” who are not really Freepers. They are DU and KOZ kids here to stir up trouble.
He's not principled enough to know the right way to respond to this, nor smart enough to outmaneuver it.
I say pin a picture of a coyote on Obama and let Rick do a re-enactment.
*Then* I'll believe he's a badass.
I am a Texan and Perry p*sses me off.
We didn’t give ourselves a better option during the primaries, now we’re stuck for another term. He’s still better than a democrat, but he’s not the lover of liberty and states’ rights that he pretends to be.
I feel like I’m stuck in the McCain/Obama election all over again.
So would have you been happy with Kay Bailey RINO?
