I became eligible to vote during the Carter debacle and Reagan got my first vote. He's still my political hero.
I remained a Republican through Bush the elder, but couldn't explain why, so I switched to Independent. Needless to say, there's never been a reason to re-up and so many reasons not to.
I bet there are millions who feel the same way, conservative but politically adrift and disgusted with the lesser evil party.
There is such a thing as political reality...such as monkeying with Social Security is the end of a politicians career ...
Even so the Republican that it seems everyone wants to hate, GW Bush, went out and danced on the third rail and tried to get SS on a better footing
I suspect it is a similar sensation to telling a mother that her son didn't fall in battle, but was hung as a traitor after he went AWOL and was captured fighting for the other side.

How does it make us free to move from one master to another?
It can be peaceful and could lead to salvation, but it does not make you free.
Texas has it’s own state military, to be called out when if the governor can’t (or don’t need to) activate their national guard.

Oh I know that. But they owe us. They can just give me back what they stole from me and keep their SS checks. I’ll settle for that.
I’d say that #2 (American Constitutional values cannot be exported by force of arms) is bogus.
All you have to do is kill off anyone in the country you control that does not already believe in US Constitutional values. Then start a massive propaganda campaign in their schools to brainwash their children at a young age into believing in our values. And if they resist, kill them too. (So what if you kill 80-90% of the population? We’re talking about what is physical possible, not what is moral right.)
It’d be at least 2 generations before you could really stop the effort, but by that point... you’d have effectively destroyed the native culture and replaced it with your own.

But thats not our fault. What I am trying to say is we shouldn't be looked down on and treated like we are stealing from the working class. SS isn't actually an entitlement. Medicare is but SS actually isn't. We shouldn't be blamed because the federal government wasted our retirement money.
Well, as one who attended public schools several decades ago, I'd have to disagree, at least with respect to that era. First, I don't recall any of my teachers to be declared socialists. Second, not all the kids' parents were conservatives, not by a long shot. And what was taught about government and society did not come from Marx and Engels, but was legitimate American and world history and American government and civics without any partisan political overtones that I can recall.
You can't say that the public school system's original mandate was to teach socialism, and it didn't throughout most of its history, although it may have evolved that way over the last several decades.
And I certainly don't see it as a welfare scheme, since many of the children enrolled are middle class.
All of which isn't to say that public education hasn't gone downhill in many ways since c. 1970.

Sweetheart, whether you like it or not, you are feeding on the blood of the living. Just because you didn't choose to be a vampire doesn't reduce the volume of blood required to keep you alive at the expense of the living.
You've been put in the unenviable situation of being required to feast on the flesh of helpless victims, fed to you by evil overlords.

Being a bondservant to the LORD indeed brings peace and salvation.
And it makes you free from the shackles of satan and sin.
And that is a Freedom that is worth more than all the gold and silver in the world.
We are slaves either to sin and to a satan that desires our eternal damnation, or to a Loving God.

Yes there is ONE God (Praise the LORD), and we are not HIM. Satan's ensnared our first parents with the temptation that 'ye can be like gods' (i.e., 'ye can be GOD' ... 'no master' -- only Self) - and in seeking and desiring this 'promised free agency' they, and their descendants became slaves to satan. Those that believed in the Promised Savior had this heavy yoke broken, and have become the happy servants to a Loving God and Saviour whose yoke is 'easy'. His Words are True, and promise refreshment to those who take HIS yoke:
Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
And you answered my question by saying we cannot be free. We are either servants of evil or servants of God. But we are not free.

Well somebody fed off of my money. Maybe they should get these able bodied a—holes off of SSI and make them work. I know dozens of people who have never worked who are drawing SSI. Did you know that low birth weight babies are eligible for SSI? Just sickening!
We're on a sinking ship. The Democrats argue that we should direct as much energy as possible into punching holes so the water can run out. The "Republicans" argue that we really shouldn't expend too much effort punching holes, but compromise on punching a few holes. Then as the boat starts sinking faster, the Democrats blame the "Republicans" for not punching holes fast enough, and the "Republicans" have no counter.
Those who argue for "moderation", rather than arguing that punching holes is fundamentally counter-productive, do more harm than good. They make it appear that the ship is sinking due to insufficient hole-punching, and make it harder to awaken the public about what's really going on.
A teachable moment. Note that the 5 things that liberals hate are short, succinct and totally lucid. Everybody gets it.
But the 5 things that some liberal says conservatives hate are wordy, incoherent, slippery, and don’t end up saying anything definite that any 2 people could agree on.
It’s bad writing like this that lets liberals churn out 2000-page bills that nobody understands.
Bad writing usually indicates bad thinking. Not to mention bad intentions.
