The Hurt Locker: Has anyone seen it? Is it any good?

Posted on 01/03/2010 3:26:43 PM PST by Yorlik803

I see the movie "The Hurt Locker" is coming out on DVD. Has anyone on FR seen it? How does it show our servicemen? I would rather not spend my cash on some left wing crap

THE HL is a very good movie. It is definitely worth seeing.

Very gritty story and tribute to EOD specialists or “Sappers” and their extremely dangerous job. Excellent movie.

It’s a picture of one facet of our efforts over there, albeit one of the most nerve wracking. Worth a watch, maybe 2.

I saw it, but there were certain aspects of the movie I didn't like. The plot line could have been a little more cohesive.

I went to see it based on comments from my fellow FReepers.

Just for once I’d like to see a decent SEAL flick and not have to watch Charlie Sheen’s mug on my set. The Abyss was decent but didn’t really focus on enough of what goes into training.

Would also like to see something of the history of the Rangers but in a role outside Somalia (though I did love Ridley’s flick).

Also, word on Amazon is that this flick is non-political, fwiw.

I really liked the movie and didn’t get any overt left-wing vibe. I thought it was a tense, interesting story with interesting cinematography. The director used multiple cameras but the actors didn’t know exactly when they rolled and where they were, so it has a very “realistic” feel.

I think it was very good, very accurate, and not leftist propaganda. Worth seeing because it tells a little-known story...just my $0.02 worth....

It is neither pro- or anti-war, just a terrific, very suspenseful film. I highly recommend it.

Yes I have seen it. Best movie of 2009. Has you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. No PC Bravo Sierra in the movie at all.

Maybe Vince Flynn will turn one of his books into a movie. I hope it’s all of them.

I just watched the trailer on Youtube. As a former Marine Combat Engineer, just that made my hair stand on end and made me utter unprintable phrases a couple of times. Looks like a winner.

I thought it was great. If it had a left-wing message, it’s hard to find or I’ve forgotten it already.

I agree with most here. At first, a Freeper posted it’s a lefty movie, so I ignored it.

After a week, another Freeper posted his/her review and it was fair. I watched it at a movie house and it was really good. It’s not anti-war nor pro-war. I am sensitive about liberal BS in a movie but it was a fair but well-made movie.

BTW, the star of the movie went to a military base and showed it our troops. He gave the respect to the military audience and broke down.

In one scene, as they are trying to render harmless an IED, they come under small arms fire from a jihadi who is wounded by returning fire. A little later a corpsman has this jihadi on a stretcher with an IV in him. As the Captain walks by the corpsman says “Hes going to make it sir he stabilized”. Captain says “No he wont make it”. Captain pulls out his sidearm and shoots the jihadi three times in the head saying “He just tried to kill one of my men”

I’m a recent fan. I’m reading The Third Option right now. I’ve been amazed that just about everything he’s written about has happened in the aftermath of 9/11. Term Limits has been my favorite so far.
