They're back, in from the frigid north. The Drakes get here first with just a few hens in the flights, and the rest of the hens follow a little later.
The little bitty guys are Pied Billed Grebes, strong swimmers and divers. They can feed in deeper water than the Mallards who just stick their butts up and dabble in shallow water.
Past the Grebes to the left there is a Red Eared Slider turtle coming up for air.
There is no season such delight can bring, As summer, autumn, winter, and the spring.

Beautiful.
BUMP.
Thanks a bunch. And please keep them coming.
I second that opinion!
I always love these; thanks.
My second visit to your photo gallery...such clarity in your shots...have you ever considered submitting some of these to National Geographic or some of the sports magazines?
The theme of the Rose Bowl Parade was “A cut above” this year. Swampsniper’s photography is my definition of “a cut above”.
Although we've just started winter here, I already look forward to the migratory birds returning.
In February the cardinals will start setting up their territories, and we will once again hear them start to sing. Right now the winter silence is full mode.
The hens are on their way. We saw some yesterday that were direction-finding before they headed south.
We moved recently, and the new place has a much better view of the sky and the horizon because of the architecture and the lay of the land.
“They’re back, in from the frigid north.”
To where? You didn’t mention this. Fl?
St.John’s County, Florida! Unfortunately it’s sort of frigid here, 27f, someone left the door open up in Canada!
Not any better in the Carolinas today. Just 24 this morning with a high in the low 40’s.
Someone needs to ask ALGORE what is going on!
It really isn't fair to ask a delusional little kid an adult question. lol
26 here, feels like 17. I sure wish some of that globull warming would make itself felt!
Looks like you took those in our gut! LOL My “tame” mallards are hunkering down. Puddles were all frozen this am, creek is fine, icy around the edges.
Happy New Year!
Hehe ... love the duck butts. Thanks as always for sharing your great pictures!
