Visited Hadrian’s wall and the archeological digs near Cumbria. Never could figure out HOW IN THE HELL ANYONE could live up there during the winter. Cold as all HELL!!!!

There is an interesting museum there, tho. Amazing to see ‘intact’ Roman sandals from the time as well as pottery and weaponry.

:’) My guess is, the real reason the Romans never wrapped things up in Caledonia is that the Roman period cooling kicked in; but western Scotland isn’t bad (so I hear), particularly if you’ve grown up in the Snow Belt.
