Hubby & I visited the Cowpens National Battlefield today in Gaffney, SC. It gave me a great sense of pride! Thought I would share some photos with my fellow FReeper patriots.
You can read more about the history of The Battle of Cowpens
here.

This is a great battlefield to visit. For the unaware, the climactic battle scene from the movie Patriot was loosely based on the battle of Cowpens, with the British charging a militia center, and assaulting over a hillock into the counterfire of continental regulars. Also, the antagonist of Patriot, "Colonel Tavington" was also loosely based on the the British commander at Cowpens, Banastre Tarleton.

Thanks. One of my favorite books is A Devil of Licking which is about Daniel Moragn and the Battle of Cowpens. Someday I hope to go there. I’ve heard his original house is still standing in Virigina. That would be neat to see too.

Thanks for sharing. Cowpens was the turning point of the war. Morgan had a brilliant plan making the best use of the men he had.

Thanks for posting the link, interesting reading. I was at Yorktown in June, another interesting place to visit. Love the history, to bad we don’t teach it in school anymore. I was at a seminar in August where the lead speaker was the Executive Director of Mount Vernon. He said that one recent HS text book had more info on Marilyn Manson than on George Washington.

Good post. I love that battlefield and even created a wargame based on it once.

I live not from Cowpens Battlefield and visit there regularly.
A beautiful place to picnic, relive history or just take a peaceful walk.
