Is President Obama Clinically Depressed?
self | October 7, 2009 | Charles Meek

Posted on 10/07/2009 6:24:33 PM PDT by grumpa

The evidence is mounting that the President is suffering from depression or worse. Here is a summary of the observable evidence:

a. Anger is a classic symptom of depression. Remember the terribly angry speech on health care President Obama gave in September?

b. Distancing oneself from reality is another symptom. Is not this clearly going on with the President and his apparent inability to address the serious issues in the war in Afghanistan? How is it otherwise conceivable that the Commander-in-Chief doesn’t even speak to his general in 70 days? Perhaps if things were going well in the war, we could overlook this lack of attention. But given the seriousness of the problems, where is the President? And what about the latest developments in Iran? The world is looking potentially at Armageddon in the Middle East. Where is the president?

c. Blaming others for failures is another clue. The President has recently suggested that the war is being lost because of our NATO allies. What?

d. Lying blatantly is another indication that a person is not emotionally stable. How can our President insist that his health care plan will not cost the taxpayers anything? After all, he only wants to add some 46 million people onto the government’s dole for health care, and he would add over 40 new federal bureaucracies. The President’s claim is irrational; that is to say mentally unbalanced.

e. The evidence is also convincing that the President is devoid of any sincere religious foundation. In the growing crisis in his presidency, he still has not made any serious effort at finding a church or spiritual support of any kind. This is still another clue that is valuable in this investigation.

f. There have been reports that the President’s staff has had to get him “up” for various duties. This lack of enthusiasm for daily tasks would be another sign of possible depression.

g.The Olympic bid could be another indication. This story was really all about cronyism, as the President’s close associates stood to be greatly enriched by the games being in Chicago. Could the president have possibly thought this would escape public notice? What is going through his mind? How could he be so blinded--unless he is simply not thinking straight?

Any one of these issues in isolation could be overlooked if that was all there was. But taken together, we must conclude that there are serious issues with President Obama’s mental health.

Perhaps there are other explanations for the President's behavior. But serious mental issues appear to be an increasingly likely conclusion. The American people need to consider this possibility.

Even if Obama isn’t depressed and doesn’t have serious mental issues, he’s responsible for inducing those problems in most patriotic Americans.

I’d say that Obama is a malignant narcissist. When things are going their way, such people are on top of the world. But when things go against them, depression is a likely outcome.

He is incapable of even conceiving of the possibility that the whole world should not love him. No matter what he does. As long as HE wants it.

If he manages to ram the healthcare bill through and bankrupt America in the process, no doubt that will cheer him up.

Yep, some people say liberalism is a mental disorder.

I don’t know if he’s clinically depressed, or has mental problems. I do think he’s learning the limits of presidential power, and the fact that things happen outside his control. And it could well be that, as some outspoken liberals think, that anyone opposed to his agenda is evil, racist, enemies in some way.

The olympic thing is a minor issue in and of itself, but the episode calls into question his judgement, his setting of priorities, his management style, and the way his staff works with him.

Nobody dares tell a narcissistic person no.

He has never heard the word, so is mystified by it.

Telling a narcissistic person no usually brings on a violent reaction. (The reason spoiled kids throw tantrums.)

Well his administration and his fellow commies in Congress certainly are DEPRESSING this country!

No, I don’t think he is himself clinically depressed at all.

He is reflecting all those teen years of nourishment from the communist spoutings of his mentor Frank Marshall Davis, from his hate white America pastor for 20 years Jeremiah Wright, from his anti-Ameerican terrorist friend William Ayers, and from his marriage to “never before proud of my country” Michelle....to name a few.

Anyone who has lived with and not sought to get away from such influences would behave as he has, as one who has adopted as his own the hatefilled worldview which governs his mind and soul.

Then there is the fact that he is a part of the corrupt criminal Chicago machine....and, well, he may have a form of mental illness....but it is also illness of a soul raised on and fed hatred of all that is good an decent in this country.

I’d say that Obama is a malignant narcissist. When things are going their way, such people are on top of the world. But when things go against them, depression is a likely outcome.

You are right. Narcissists cannot tolerate it when the adoration fades, or they are continually questioned. And, it is especially bad if it is public. Any critique, no matter how slight, is thought by them to be an outright assult campaign against them. I know, I lived with one. I had to learn a lot about narcissism to understand.

When things really get rough, the narcissist first gets unreasonably angry, then hides and isolates themselves...then they run. Or, they suffer an emotional break down.

Narcissism is NOT a MENTAL illness. It is an emotional dysfunction. They just always see things differently and live in a perpetual fog they create for themselves. It is great when they can pull people in there with them. But when those close to them become suspicious or questioning, and no longer adore them...they throw them out and blame them for everything wrong.

This is why I have said from the days during Obama's campaign when he showed signs of malignant narcissism, that he will suffer an emotional breakdown before his term is ended. He has proven many times that he is thin-skinned.

It all stems from his dysfunctional family and being bounced around, and never really knowing who he was, who his father was/is, and why his mother left him, etc. It also comes from his mixed heritage, and feeling like an outsider. This is why he so much needs to identify himself with a group, a movement, a cause, etc. He feels no real self-identity. A narcissist is only a reflection of what he feels people think he is. When that changes, a narcissist is lost and has to re-invent himself.

For this reason, I have said over and over, all those elected to high political office should undergo a severe personality test just like those for administrative level positions in businesses and corporations often have to take. Those tests weed out the incompetent, untruthful, poor leadership skills, and those who are not team players. Had Obama undergone this type of test, he would not have been a candidate at all. What could be more important than to know that our leaders are emotionally well-balanced, even if we do not agree with them??? It seems it is the most important thing we should insist be done before turning over our country to someone who has emotional problems.

Interesting hypothesis, but since you did not present any professional credentials to back up your observations, I think it’s fair to question your “diagnosis”.

Personally, I chalk most of the things you mention up to Obama’s Liberalism, with a healthy dose of not having any clue what he is doing thrown in for good measure. I think Obama is discovering that wanting the Presidency is a lot more fun than the having it...
