I believe Israel did it in self defense. They started out with a very small population....It wasn’t done for PC reasons....Just a female observation, when women are on their periods, there is an odor. Subs stay submerged for long periods of time....wonder how they will solve that problem and any woman that says its not true is lying..

After 131 years, the mission of the US Naval Academy was changed in 1976 from producing sea fighters to "professional naval officers" in order to accommodate women. Perhaps the mission of the sub service will be modified as well. PC stinks.

...the small, secretive force has been comprised entirely of male officers...And then a thread on FR yesterday discussing a study that found that women can't keep secrets...(ducking!)

The Navy is about to induce the same crew shortages into the Submarine Fleet that the Surface Fleet has been experiencing for years. Too many ships have left on cruise seriously short of crew members because of females who decide it is easier to pop pregnant than deploy overseas.
I’d like to hear how the hot-bunking works out from anyone at SubLant or SubPac...

I just cant figure on a mixed crewed attack sub. It should be all one or the other. Gives a whole new meaning to "hot bunking in the torpedo skids."

Submarine tenders are large supply / maintenance ships that support sub squadrons. In the early 90’s one of them was told to prepare to deploy to the middle east in the run up to the gulf war. 300 women got pregnant. The captain, preparing for their first deployment in years, was down 10% of his crew.

Lets run a little scenario. Take a 688 class submarine and put 10 women on board. I assume they will not be able to ‘hot rack’ for medical / hygiene reasons. You can't put them in 9 man berthing so they have to go to lower level berthing which has 15 racks(?) if I recall correctly. That means 5 racks are empty - which means 15 more men have to hot rack. Actually, if the 10 women were men they would be eligible for hot racking, since they are unqualified nubbies (nubs) which means 30 more senior and qualified sailors are now hot racking, bringing the total to 45 men paying the price for feminism.
Like we always said, the beatings will continue until moral improves.

I had a woman in the Navy make a joke about that very thing one time. I was in an office on a submarine tender picking up parts and there were 7 women in the room. I stood there like a statue. Every one of us that had to regularly go to the tenders felt like we were taking our careers in our hands every time.

There was a time when people running the armed forces were rational. Do you think that those days will ever return?

I DISAGREE: The women in the I. D. F. are among the best in the world and their country (Israel) is certainly worth defending. They are there for the simple reason Israel needs the bodies given the number of enemies surrounding her, but I doubt the women are used much for infantry assault operation. I spent enough decades in the martial arts to experience the difference between men and women and not be duped by PC thinking. the disparity is large. We have enough bodies in America so that we don't need women in active combat roles.

Navy wives will just love this! I've been on a submarine. It's cozy under the best of circumstances. I am very glad my husband got out years ago.
