Is There A Way To Find Out Someone's IP Address On A Blog?(Vanity)
http://www.conservatives4palin.com/ ^ | 9-24-09 | Me

Posted on 09/24/2009 5:37:23 PM PDT by Sarah Barracuda

The reason why I am asking is because I post on Conservatives4Palin.com, and these two trolls who post there constantly are just evil, deranged individuals. I'd like to find out who they are(or most likely they are the same person) unfortunately the site has not been able to IP block them, but if there is a way for me to find out their IP address to scare them off once and for all that would be great. They post the most hateful(Huffington Post kind of crap)

There is an old saying on the internet: “Don’t feed the trolls and they will go away”.

So ignore them and eventually, not right away, they will go away because they can not stand being ignored.

Being noticed is what they live for.

Totally ignore. No reply of any kind.

True, but if you read some of the hateful crap there, well, it’s obvious they are from the Daily Kos. I have talked to the Mods there, they said there is no way to IP block someone posting on a blog, but I thought maybe there was a way for me to find out their IP address, so that we could scare them off. They won’t be going away

If I were you, I'd be a lot more worried about them finding who you are.

The site would be able to determine that. In a chat room its easy to find out or p2p. But if they are just postings on a blog, it would have to be the sites owners to find out. Even if you did, IP’s can be dynamic or grouped into a common range. In addition, many peope surf through anonymizers and proxies. I agree, just ignoring them is the best bet.

Can’t C4P just block them from posting? I visit the site but I don’t post there. If registration is necessary to post, then their accounts can be revoked by a moderator.

Sounds like they want an open forum or they’d tighten things up a bit. But if you can find their info so can they find yours. So be careful of what you wish for as there are some pretty nasty people running around the net.

Trend Micro is correct.

Knowledge is extremely dangerous.

Yep, that’s true. They do delete the posts, and I think they are thinking about moving to wordpress so that they can block IP addresses and not allow these vermin in

I know that there are people who can track this stuff but I don't think you will find them by asking on FR or any other newsgroup.

Besides, you just might end up with someone who is not ethical and who will instead put trojans or key loggers on your machine.

You should know people who are in law enforcement or writing software for law enforcement, or possibly someone who has written software for the CIA and can get them to help you.

I do know it can be done because I have read stories about those who have tracked people this way. However, I can't remember any names. Only the story.

Talk to some of your contacts. Much safer.

‘Nope, anyone can post there, just using your email address and poof, your in. No registration required’

There’s no button to push to report offensive posts? That seems odd.

It might take a little “wetware” engineering but it’s possible if you can get them to cooperate.

Does the site allow you to send them a private message? If it does, send them a note suggesting they visit a site that you control. Then see who visits.

Tailor the invite to what you know about their interests, peeves, hot buttons whatever.

I dont want to scare someone off by gathering their personal info anymore than I want someone using my personal info to try to scare me...

Stifling discussion however much we dont agree with it smacks of a snitch website approach...

I dont agree with your approach

Oh, the mods do delete the posts, but they claim there is no way to block them from posting. That is why they want to move their blog to wordpress, which can supposedly block IP addresses

Some blogging sites allow you to install third party apps that can track IPs. Livejournal is one. I think facebook may also allow but I am not sure. If your current host doesn’t allow, consider moving to one that does.

I thought you were hosting your own blog, so never mind.

No real way for us regular folks.

I have outed a couple using advanced Google search. As a rule, the more outrageous and despicable the leftist, the more in love they are with their own words. i.e. If he uses a unique, “colorful” phrase, chances are he will also use it on another forum. These are dead giveaways once a pattern is established. Then you can call them out in open forum. But don’t be surprised if your suspect changes names and returns to the scene of the crime.
