Ronald Reagan Warns Against "Socialized Medicine" as the Path to a Socialized America - Audio 1961

Here is audio of Ronald Reagan in virtual prophetic voice speaking against "Socialized Medicine," 48 years ago. He was speaking in 1961 and pointed out that Socialism would always be rejected directly by the American people, but that attempts to introduce it into the American bloodstream could come through socialized medicine.

Reagan was speaking before the adoption of Medicare, and was warning against the "encroachment" of socialism through medical care. He explains that Social Security was always intended to be a safety net, not the primary livelihood of citizens replacing personal savings and incomes.

Of course, Medicare was adopted during the Lyndon Johnson administration and is not solvent today. Yet the Democrats hold it up as the model for why we should now continue the encroachment of Socialism by extending Socialized Medicine to a new level, which will being us closer to the day when Government has its hands in every aspect of our lives.

Reagan closes with an impassioned plea for citizens to write the members of Congress. He said:

"If you don't, this program I promise you will pass just as surely as the sun will come up tomorrow, and behind it will come other Federal Programs that will invade every area of freedom as we have known it in this country, until, one day as Norman Thomas said, we will awake to find we have Socialism. If you don't do this, and if I don't do it, one of these day, you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children, and our children's children what it was like in America when men were free."

Can you believe that. Medicare passed and has helped many, but it is bankrupt and it increased the "encroachment," as Reagan called it, of Socialism in America. Behind it has come one Federal Program after another until we now stand face to face with ObamaCare, which would take the encroachment of Socialism to a stratospheric level. Here is where it must be turned back.

Listen to Reagan's words 48 years ago. They sound like he is speaking to the ObamaCare debate of today. He is. . . . . (Listen to Audio)

Reagan understood socialism - and it’s seductive appeal.

In that speech, Reagan starts by talking about American socialist Norman Thomas. Remember Evan Thomas, Editor at Newsweek (We Are All Socialists Now, Feb 09) who compared Obama to God? Well, Evan Thomas is the Grand Son of Norman Thomas. Now things make sense!
