Ask Obama, he’s already been through it.

Actually, I would contend that a communist is really a logical socialist. IF his agenda will indeed bring heaven on earth it only makes sense to do whatever is necessary to bring it about. A few (or a lot) of ill-informed or evil people shouldn’t be allowed to stand in the way. Socialism by whatever means necessary!

Or, to put it another way, a socialist or liberal is just a squeamish communist.

Liberals always were Stalinists

The answer is very simple:

When they stop being liberal.

I don’t use the term “Liberal” any more because THEY’RE NOT. They only subscribed to the notion of “live as you see fit and don’t harm others” as a means of getting others to accept them so long as they were not in power. Once they achieved sociopolitical power, they ejected the axiom of dictionary-definition “liberal” and went straight to full-on authoritarianism.

They’re not liberals. Stop calling them that.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

It started a long time ago. When stalin was alive and in power, the dimrat party/dimrat media spoke no evil about him. Like they were jealous of his power. More proof is how the dimrats and their media fall all overthemselves over castro and chavez. I’m real glad that more and more Americans are waking up to what the dims have become.

It does seem like liberals seem to gravitate toward evil concepts instinctively.

I think this is a thought provoking question and commentary by Mr. Lewis. Thank you for your comments.

I guess the reason I posted the article was because I was thinking of the vitriol orchestrated and demonstrated during the Bush years, and the false accusations being hurled at citizens who are opposed to this administration’s health proposals.

And, how we have moved incrementally farther and farther to the left in both the Democratic and Republican Parties, over the years, until extreme leftists now control the Dem Party - not to mention those un-elected staffers, and appointees who may very well be Stalinists for all we know.

Also, the fact that all of the citizen protestors opposing this are not Conservatives and Republicans, and that there are a growing number of Democrats and Independents opposing this nationalized health plan indicates that not everyone who considers himself to be liberal would support extreme policies.

We can disagree and argue and debate policy with freedom loving people, but, of course, we must unite to defeat those who would use government power to control us and take away our freedom to voice our opinions and affect government policies.

Totalitarianism is still oppressive regardless of the benevolence of the dictator. The possibility is always there to wield that power in destructive ways. History shows that has more often than not been the result at some point. Those people who think they want government to take care of them need to learn a bit of the history of totalitarianism and think about that.

At the precise point that they attain political power.

THAT is when a (political) liberal becomes a Statist.

It has always perplexed me that most so called liberals are vehemently anti-American and anti the actions of the government of these United States; and yet they have never seen an expansion of power for this “evil” enterprise that they are unwilling to sign on to whole heartedly.

The ethical collapse of the left was nowhere more evident than in the near total silence of liberal media and Web sites at the Obama administration's outrageous solicitation to private citizens to report unacceptable "casual conversations" to the White House. If Republicans had done this, there would have been an angry explosion by Democrats from coast to coast. I was stunned at the failure of liberals to see the blatant totalitarianism in this incident, which the president should have immediately denounced. His failure to do so implicates him in it.

Paglia has it pegged!

Thank you for mentioning Paglia’s piece. I had not seen that.

While I don’t agree with everything she had to say about Obama, I do agree with her assessment of public response to this health plan.

Although there are folks who are ahead of her with regard to understanding the direction taken by the leadership of the Democratic Party, she apparently doesn’t understand “the drift of (her) party toward a soulless collectivism”. But, she is very smart and honest, so I have no doubt that she will write the truth about it when she does come to understand how it is happening, just as she did about her reassessment of Sarah Palin’s remarks.

Yes, too many people, especially liberals, are willing to trust, but, not ‘verify’ when it comes to their party leadership.

It reminds me of religious people who blindly follow what a “religious leader” preaches rather than read, and study, the Bible to see whether those things are true, as the Bereans did so long ago.

But, thankfully, once some of these people who consider themselves to be liberal have read this bill, their eyes have been opened and they now oppose it despite the claims of their party leadership.

OTOH, there are those liberals higher up in the Dem Party who oppose it for less noble reasons than because it will take away freedoms from “the masses”. They are just disagreeing with the leadership’s process of curtailing those freedoms!

Many of those Democrats do not think of themselves as liberal but, rather as conservative. They are Democrat because their parents were Democrat and they still get their views of the world from the Newspaper and TV and they know that no matter how bad the Democrat politicians get they are better than the Republicans because Republicans are like “foreigners,” even if you agree with them you don’t want them running your country.

...The elitism rampant on the left is the ruination of America.

Liberals actually feel (note I don't use the word "think") that people of other races are, in fact, intellectually inferior to white liberals. They are the practical racists and it shames those that understand that- some do- and they atone by attempting to protect those inferior people and to boost them above white people other than themselves.

Asians present a riddle that liberals have not yet solved in that Asians are smarter than white liberals, at least they get better grades in harder subjects in University. Liberals partially offset this uncomfortable observation by saying smarter, yes, but they are still intellectually inferior. Asians are "in business" or they have to "work for a living." Superior liberals don't work, they are professors or journalists(they don't see these occupations as "work" but as teaching and guiding the lesser peoples)or they live from inherited assets that just rightfully, in the grand scheme of things, inhere in their families.

The Left loved Hitler and the NAZIs until the moment that Hitler attacked the USSR. They became complete and implacable enemies of the NAZIs at that moment.
