The weekend looms, and that means a morning lie-in for many - though with the clocks going forward there'll be an hour's less shut-eye on Sunday morning. But, says Sean Coughlan, there's much more to getting a really good kip than just shutting your eyes.
Britons are the worst sleepers in Europe, claimed a survey last week, depicting a nation starved of sleep and facing a daily battle against red-eyed exhaustion. Notice in boarding house If it's a good sleep you want, there are rules
One in five of the population sleeps for fewer than seven hours a night, according to research from the Future Foundation for the health campaign Sleep Well Live Well. Many of these tired souls reported feeling stressed and unhappy.

My tried and true method:
1) Avoid anything with caffeine in it.
2) Put on a boring movie.
Within ten minutes, it’s snoresville for me. :)
I got a sleep study and then they gave me a CPAP machine. Life has been wonderful since I’ve been able to sleep uninterrupted for eight hours every night.
Seven hours a night? I wish I got that much. I get about 5 or 6 a night(sometimes less) and then make up for it on the weekends. 12 hours minimum fri and sat night.
Don’t have dogs in the family
CPAP changed my life. Half way through the sleep study I had already had 90 apnea episodes. They put me on the machine right away and I woke up 5 hours later feeling better than I had in years.
2. Melatonin (natural hormone that causes drowsiness and helps keep you sleeping. Absolutely safe) and Magnesium. Magnesium is a natural "tranquilizer." Calcium helps, so chew a Tum about an hour before bedtime.
3. Wear socks. No kidding. It's amazing.
4. DARK ROOM. Dark. Not just "darkened." DARK. Put foil on the windows. If you can't do that, get a sleep mask.
5. Close doors and windows against noise.
Yah, that really makes a difference, too. I don't have it, but I do wear a Breatheright to bed and it is great.
My dogs sleep with me; their snoring and dreams, “running” on their sides, chasing after dreamland frisbees and their muffled, dream woofs, are the most peaceful thing to sleep to that I can imagine. I could do without the occasional fart, lol, but wouldn’t dream of having it any other way.
Hanging upside down in the attic works for me.
1) Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Tea
2) A hot shower
3) Some nice lovemaking with my hubbie gives me nice sleep afterward
I’ve found that my eyes open several times a night- while I’m still asleep. If there’s a dark shape in the room that’s the right size and shape almost to be a person, my eyes will see it, send a security alert to my brain and wake me up for a moment for a more positive identification. ‘Oh, it’s that thing’. Back out again.
I had another lucid dream a couple of nights ago- where I was aware in my dream that I was dreaming, and that I could conjure up anything I wanted or needed simply by imagining it’s presence. The dream’s ‘story line’ had me needing to get somewhere and with no car to get there with. I imagined-up a Range Rover for some reason.
THe socks thing works. I use it. Also, stay away from milk or cocoa or alcohol. Stay away from bright lights too. TV or computer screens screw up your brain’s sleep cycle. No TV or computer for at least an hour before bedtime. That last one is hard to do though.
Ditto. I believe my CPAP machine has added 20 years to my life.
