Drinking a pint of beer or two measures of gin or vodka on a nightly basis can also have the same effect.

The warning appears to conflict with other studies which suggest moderate alcohol intake can help combat heart disease.

Although the link has not been definitively explained, it is thought the alcohol damages a person's DNA, making them susceptible to the risk of cancer.

Bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK, with more than 36,500 people diagnosed each year and 16,000 deaths.

More than 3,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with liver cancer each year and a similar number die.

The WCRF said there was convincing evidence that drinking alcohol also increased the risk of breast cancer and cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx and oesophagus.

Wine is good for you. They’ve done studies. I guess the only side effect is that it kills you.

France has more sunshine than England.

It’s pretty obvious that many of these studies are bunk. There is something wrong with the assumptions or the methodology.

When you can conduct the same study in two different places and get totally opposite results, that’s telling you something!

I think the ride is way more important (and fun) than the end. Might as well enjoy that ride with wine because the end will probably suck regardless.
