I've been reading foreign accounts and American rags about how America has finally arrived with the election of a black man in the US presidency. Well, I started thinking, he is only the 44th president we've had here. The odds of ANYONE being elected president is 1 in hundreds of billions anyway.
We have been a country for 232 years and blacks haven't even had all their rights for a part of that. Since our birth, we have now put blacks in the Supreme Court, Senate, Congress, Governor, mayor, and almost every other office we have to give.
I started thinking, "Who else has done this?" Has Briton elected an Irishman as PM? France a Muslim? Russia, anyone that is black, or Asian? After all they have "comrades" of every stripe there. France is about one third Muslim now and Briton has had Irishmen for a long time. Who has ever been anything in Cuba besides Castro? What has Iran done to promote a Christian or a Jew to power? Even a Suni Muslim?
I don't understand this facination with the US being a racist country when there is almost nothing anywhere else on the planet to compare to the US. Why can't a Tibetan not run China if they are so intent on keeping Tibet in the fold?
I was just reading where a respected news anchor in Austria made racist remarks about Obama and is being chastized about it, but in fact, I know of no new racial barriers in Austria that have been shattered lately. With their background in Hitlerism, I don't know if they are the right ones to judge the US on anything racial.
No, the truth is, we are about the most tolerant country ont the planet already and I don't know of any peers. I see all of these countries celebrating Obama's election in the US, but don't see them taking a chance in their own country. Even the most liberal countries like Briton, France, Sweden, Netherlands, etc, have done NOTHING.
What are the odds of me being elected to president? I saw the blacks weeping and saying they thought they would never see the day this would happen. I know as a white, protestant, male, I had a good shot at president, uhhhh,...... yeah, right. If you just look at the millions of Americans that have lived and died from the birth of the nation, and add in the people still alive today, what are the odds that any one of us would be one of the 44 presidents we have elected? Pretty large, I imagine.
I hope that this presidency will finally put to rest all the whining from minorities that there is somehow a ceiling they can't penetrate. We still haven't elected a woman to the highest office, white or black, and they represent 50% of the population, not 13% like blacks. What percent of Hispanics have high office and I know they have a higher percentage of the population than blacks? Maybe we can get rid of afirmative action this time around. And maybe, the rest of the world can start to catch up to us instead of looking down their crooked noses at us.
All this won't mean anything if Obama has no character. Remember MLK's dream was to be judged by our character, not the color of our skin. If America is attacked and Obama doesn't react, none of this will matter anymore anyway. If the economy tetters into panic, what will his black skin have in reserve to save us? Yes it is a milestone for America to elect a black male as president, but I just don't understand what that has to do with leadership. If we don't care if the whole nation ends up looking like Detroit, Philly, or Pre-Rudy NYC, then what good does it do just to have a black president?
I will laugh my a$$ off if his Birth certificate says he is white....
I wish the RIGHT black man was the nominee.
I would have voted for Thomas Sowell or Larry Elder, even if they were nominated by the Democrats.
Sort of. The Duke of Wellington was born in Ireland.
Are Dukes elected by the voters?
OK, I used Irish as just an example. Have they ever elected an Indian PM? They were a colony for many years and never even let an Indian run India.
Nope, but the Iron Duke was supported by a majority of the Commons, which at the time wasn’t itself even really elected by the people.
Well, they’ve elected Scots and Welshmen.
At least we can totally take away the racial whines blacks may continue with.
They should do as Dear Leader says...stop showing your underwear, stop having kids out of wedlock, learn to respect others.
We could have bought them all a Cosby CD. It would have been cheaper than this will be.

That MLK quote is obviously out the window, since the ONLY reason ANYONE voted for Obama was the color of his skin, IOW, ALL of his supporters are just racists and bigots.
I saw Christopher Hitchens interviewed as part of a forum promoting the same garbage, classical Hitchens asked; Now give me one example of how a coloured person in America is better off now than he was before obama became President Elect...
No answer was forthcoming because he was cut off.

***Well, that’s off by 3 orders of magnitude. It’s 1 in hundreds of Millions, since there are ~300M Americans. Maybe I might wander through the rest of this vanity.
At least it wasn’t his head (yet).
So it’s 44 people against 6 or 700 million total. It’s still off by 3 orders of magnitude.
