Weather Underground and Other 60s Radical Groups - History - Excerpt 1 from Law Review Book
American law enforcement uncovered a plot by 1960s American radical groups to destroy several Manhattan buildings;2 that members of the Weather Underground were charged with a plot to use explosives to destroy power lines, a railroad junction, and property of Bethlehem Steel Works,3 with killing two police officers and a security guard during a robbery of an armored truck,4 and with executing an escape from San Quentin prison that resulted in the deaths of inmate George Jackson and five other persons;5 and that during the murder trial arising out of the latter incident, Jacksons brother entered the Marin County courthouse and took the trial judge hostage.6 The judge was killed in the parking lot during a gun battle between his abductors and the police.7
Around this same time, leaders of the Black Afro Militant Movement (BAMM) organization gave instructions to a gathered group in Miami on how to assemble explosive and incendiary devices, to, in their words, prepare the members of BAMM for the coming revolution.8
Individual members of African-American revolutionary groups were prosecuted for murdering police officers and government informants in Philadelphia, New York, New Haven, and Cleveland.9
White radicals, in a show of solidarity with their black peers, placed dynamite at the Central Intelligence Agency offices in Ann Arbor, Michigan.10 Politically-motivated individuals in several citiesNew Orleans, New York, Milwaukee, San Diego, Albuquerque, Miami, and Salt Lake City hijacked commercial airliners, in one case ordering the pilot to fly the plane into a Tennessee nuclear reactor when it appeared their demands would not be met.11 Was the political violence of this era real or imagined?
According to figures contained in a 1972 Supreme Court brief submitted by the Attorney General, there were 1,562 bombing incidentsmost of which involved government-related facilitiesin the United States in the first six months of 1971.12
Putting aside the issue of how U.S. counter-terrorism enforcement efforts in the 1960s and 1970s were implemented, it cannot be said that the radical groups of this era should have been left to their own devices and allowed to operate happily unencumbered by any law-enforcement scrutiny. Their violent activities, particularly when considered in the aftermath of September 11, 2001, speak for themselves.

The Pentagon Bombing occurred in 1972. I resent the media’s attempt to miscast this as the excesses of the 1960s.
Teh Weather Underground were formed in the last 3 months of 1969. They were hiding from police into the mid-1970s. Several members robbed a bank in the 1980s.
The Unabomber was also part of the 1970s radical left terrorist movement (not alligned with them in politics or membership but in acts and deed).

What are you citing?
The link at post 2: “Has Trevor Loudon found the Ayers-Dohrn-Obama smoking gun? Meet the Movement for a Democratic Society”
has a great Mickey Mouse roll call of who is who among the Obama radicals.
I’m really becoming more confused.

Shows the FBI has these people classified as foreign influenced Terrorists.
The dots connect for us and we have limited resources. Obviously the Feds have more resources.
So why aren’t these terrorists frog marched rather than holding offices and influencing our lives?
I thought you were referencing something from my posted article.
Great Links at post 2!
Thank you, Calpernia. Don’t get confused now; we’re all having difficulty keeping up.
Pinging.

I can’t recall off-hand the name of that other “MDS’er” that is associated with Obama’s campaign - do you happen to remember the name off-hand (I guess I could check the list and see if I recognize it)? He’s the one helping to organize the NEW SDS... I think his first name might’ve been Tom?
I echo your sentiments about being confused! So many people, so many “organizations”!
You know another thing that is bugging me personally - and this was mentioned on CNN last night. They are saying that Ayers and Dohrn were “simply” Anti-War. That is NOT the case at ALL! Many were “anti-war” during Vietnam for various reasons.
However, not a LOT of the anti-war folks back then were ACTUALLY PRO-COMMUNIST to the extent of Ayers & Dohrn and their fellow terrorists! THAT is the main point I’d like to actually HEAR from SOMEONE in the MSM. These people are ANTI-CAPITALIST, and PRO-COMMUNIST — and STILL ARE!
This isn’t some “peace” movement it is only a FRONT for a worldwide COMMUNIST movement. To even suggest that Obama was NOT aware of Ayers political beliefs is ridiculous. Ayers would never have recruited Obama if their political beliefs didn’t mesh - no way, no how!
The new SDS?
I’ve seen no indication that the old SDS ever disbanned. I’ve found no break in timeline activity from WW2 up to today.
PUMA’s working hard also.
Good video here on Ayers and the underground. Ayers wife sounds like a real sweetheart.

As a curious side-note, if you go to William Ayers main website
you will notice a very prominent name in the middle of the page: ABU-ZAYD. For those of you who are not familiar with Islamic culture, the name means FATHER OF ZAYD and it is Ayers OTHER name. As you may have noticed above, Ayers has two children which he raised as Muslims (Malik and Zayd), a fact that he openly exalts by applying to himself an honorary Muslim name.

The basic reference material utilized for this document is contained within the quarterly reports of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). IS-SDS during the period of 11/67-1972
Quote:
Knowledgeable analysts who have followed the growth of the Weathermen, or as it is called now, the Weather Underground Organization, are well aware of the foreign influences on the collective throughts and actions of these revolutionaries who have consistently carried out the Marxists-Leninist conception of armed strugle in the U.S. The WUO investigation is an excellent example of the native born American who adopts the faith of an alien ideology and in behalf of his beliefs commits acts of armed violence, the purpose of which serves to acknowledge his revlutionary obligations to the international commuist movement and at the same time create the conditions for revolution in the mother country.
The revolutionary who has committed his destiny under the world center of revolution (in this instance Havana), develops his fraternal ties with that center and carries out in practice those actions which foster this international relationship. He ceases to be merely “domestic” when he adopts his international identity as a revolutionary. The examples of the leadership of the CPUSA in effectively carrying out the policies and purposes of the Communist Party, Soviet Union, are legion and the enclosed material shows no less the WUO carrying out the policies and purposes of the Vietnamese (DRV and PRG) and the Cuban government.

My confusion was in reference to our gov’s inaction, not the organizations.
