Enjoying a leisurely wade in the waters of the Dutch undergrowth this grey heron decided to go in search of lunch when he came across this unsuspecting black rabbit.
Undeterred by its size, the grey heron, the largest bird of its kind in Europe, swooped down and gobbled the rabbit up in one mouthful, as these pictures show.

i saw a 4’ rattler eat a dove once,
does that count?
Our Weims will occasionally catch a rabbit and the poor rabbit makes the most horrendous noise. We try to rescue the rabbit before they kill it. They also stalk squirrels, and their latest fad is bringing us turtles each time they venture into the woods. Why they’re all of a sudden obsessed with turtles, we don’t know...but they come back with them almost everytime, and at least the turtles aren’t harmed.
Wow

poor little bunny..looked like a baby bunny. Hope that big ol bird had heart burn.
ok.
also, i was so enthralled that i forgot to take my camera out of my back pocket!
Hey Swampsniper, I bet you would enjoy these.
Somebody's gonna pay. |
Saw where a 40 Yellow Catfish regurgitated in a holding tank 3 puldues (Coots-that is a diving bird) I guess when the dive to get food, they become food for the catfish.
Bunnies got himself a one-way ticket to Hell.

..or Hillary when Obama wins the nomination over her.
That heron was tougher than Jimmy Carter.
Looking at it again, I'd say ridiculously photoshopped.
There is a national wildlife preserve near where we live. One can see quite a few blue herons there. Just in a couple of visits I saw blue herons catching a snake and a rat.
The big herons and egrets are tough customers, I’ve seen them grab small gators and big snakes.
I’d have killed that f#cking bird before it ate the rabbit. I know it’s nature but I like rabbits more than herons.
