No denial.
France of today is a magnificent nation.
The almost perfect blend of shopping opportunities, beauty of architechture and landscape, nice freeways, marvelous food, well educated people and high-tech solutions are just about everywhere.
Today, even a place like Paris or Monaco (not "de jure" French) has become poorer than Hamburg, Switzerland, Inner City London and Scandinavia, but Paris and Monaco still live up to their former reputation in many ways.
Personally, I admire good old France.
Just have a look at it:

25% are retired
25% are unemployed
25% are on strike
Where does the money come from?
New car dealers love France: nobody wants to buy a firebombed used car.
Could France Lead the World?

From the moment of birth, French children are taught they not only WILL rule the Earth, but that they already DO and that they are ENTITLED to it.
Most of us other Europeans don’t bother too much about this attitude of theirs, still I question if it does them any good.
But, okay, I’m Swedish.
You forgot they work a mandated 35 hour week. I heard today that Sarkozi introduced a bill to repeal that law with predictable result—the unions are discussing a nationwide strike to shut the country down.
My mother owns a French car (a Peugeot). It’s well-designed, comfortable and has a lot of strange buttons that, in similarity with the vehicle as a whole, came without instructions upon purhase.

- Being somewhat spontaneous, I’d say Sarkozy is about twice as intelligent and at least 10 times more of a true patriot than the average French unionist.

Which has nothing to do with France. But you know what they say "no one likes the French" - now we know why.
The French do have their peculiarities when it comes to automobiles. I still remember the time I sat down in the driver's seat of a Citroen DS19, and tried to start it up ... couldn't find the accelerator pedal, just this little mushroom-like thing. Or was it the brake pedal, lol?
Could France lead the World? Well to lead you have to have people follow you, to follow you they must respect you or fear you. France inspires neither respect nor fear.
The sad thing is that France will be a Muslim state under Sharia law in a few decades.
Only if we all walk backwards.
