This is a posting of a liberal bias warning. I just returned from a week of vacation in Myrtle Beach and went to the new IMAX 3D theater at Broadway at the Beach one day to see a film on the Grand Canyon. I thought I would be seeing a film show casing the 3D technology and images. What I got was a biased political screed from Robert Redford on the dangers on Anthropogenic Global Warming and the evil dangers of mankind to the planet. There was no balance and the whole program was about what we could do to restore the planet and limit man's damage. It also used the teenage daughter of the narrator to show the "commitment" of the properly educated younger generation as the hope for the future.
My wife muttered, as we left, that she wanted her money back. It was a real waste of money and the thought of where the ticket price went made it worse.

I have never before posted a vanity, but I thought I might save a FReeper a vacation irritant.

I visited my parents this past week. While there I was reading the latest edition of People while on the crapper (the only place I'll ever be caught reading that tripe). An article mentioned the Robert Redford narrated IMAX movie as being new and critically acclaimed. This may be around for awhile in IMAXs across the country. 3D fans beware.

Does Myrtle Beach still have that huge souvenir/tourist trap named "The Gay Dolphin"?
The name of the place creeped me out in 1973 when I was a teen. Just wondering.

We didn’t stop there, but it is still in business in downtown Myrtle Beach. They bill themselves as the largest gift shop on the Grand Strand.

Still there. I thought it had a cool lookout tower when I went back in '95, except that there were condos in the way of a great view.

Wow, it's still there. Like I said it was way back in 1973.
There was also a house of horrors called "Dracula's Castle". I believe the Gay Daolphin was the tallest building on the Strand at that time. People mostly stayed in campgrounds. Oh, and there was a min-igolf course every 100 yards or so. They were simpler times.

Wow, those were simpler times. Most of the developed areas near the shore are high density mid and high rises, except for areas that are single family home areas. It is very congested in the Gay Dolphin area, as well as many of the nearby sections. There are also several mega developments that serve as tourist attractions.
