The Hummingbirds are Back

The female was drinking from the Lantana blossoms a couple of days ago. I put up the feeder, the male showed up today. I've had as many as 4 mated pairs around, gets wild when the little ones leave the nests. You only get the bright ruby color with head on shots, I'll change the angle of the feeder.

The other guys never leave!

I love the mummingbirds! There are videos at youtube of a great yardfull up in Kentucky from last year. I was just down in Alabama and North Ga and the hummers are already flitting about.

There is a Sparrow pic and a Cardinal pic, besides the two hummer pics of females.

Had a customer come in about the 23 and say one of his hummers was back and demanding to be fed. Early, but we’ve had a fairly mild winter.

Beautiful, as always! Thanks!

Nice pics. We've got um rear round and they drink about a gallon every couple of weeks.

Don't buy the red stuff..No good for them. Just mix sugar and water, they love it and it's a lot cheaper.

COOL PICS! I started putting out Hummer feeders only a couple of years ago. Now I look forward to then comming back to Pittsburgh, usuaally late April and May.

Decades ago we had them at the family home...I still live there...but for 20 or so years I didn't see any.

Now it's a right of Spring!

Thanks for the thread!

Didn’t you post pictures and write about these birds last year, or sometime earlier? Very neat that they come back to the same place every year. Great pictures too.

A lot of them have hatched on my property over the years, and they do seem to come back. It is amazing when you think of them crossing the Gulf of Mexico twice a year.

Great pictures! We have a feeder but it's empty now. I thought it was too early, but evidently I should fill it up tomorrow!

We have a nest of house finches in one of the Boston ferns hanging on our porch. It's the third we've had in two states! I put up a finch feeder yesterday and have already seen a bunch of house and gold finches. There are also bluebirds in the neighborhood, and cardinals. Glad I left the city! :)

Spotted one this afternoon trying to drink out of one of the nasty feeders.Felt bad so I took and cleaned them.Haven’t filled them up and put them back yet.My wife knows just how to mix the batch. We’ll have as many as 5 or 6 on a hot summer day. They’ll get right up to your face and chase each other around. They’re like little dive bombers.

They hover right in front of you and look you in the eye, LOL. They go by so close you can feel the draft from their wings! Thank God, I’m a country boy!
