When Bob Daugherty pulled into the driveway of his La Pine home Tuesday morning, he saw something he wont soon forget.
A 7-foot, 115-pound cougar had jumped the fence into his backyard.
As he watched from the driveway, the big cat swiped at his female Staffordshire terrier, Sage.
His other dog, a male American bulldog named Riley, raced to Sages defense, Daugherty said. Riley faced down the cougar, driving it back a few steps before the big cat turned tail and climbed a tree in the yard.
Daugherty said he then went into the yard, grabbed both of his dogs and hustled them into the house. He also intercepted his oldest daughter, who had started toward the dogs in the yard.
Once inside, at about 9:45 a.m., he called 911.
The cougar stayed in the tree until after a Deschutes County sheriffs deputy arrived and consulted with state and federal wildlife experts over the phone about the best course of action.
Because the cougar had attacked during the day and may have become accustomed to humans, wildlife officials decided the cougar should be killed, according to a news release from the Sheriffs Office.
Cougars in the wild tend to be shy creatures that hunt primarily at night.
If a cougar poses a threat to people or pets, however, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife kills the animal. Relocation can spread disease or shift the danger to another area.
ODFW also believes the cougar population in the state is healthy. Roughly 5,000 cougars are estimated to live in Oregon, while the departments management plan calls for a minimum of 3,000, according to the departments Web site.
Several ranchers and wildlife groups, however, filed a lawsuit Tuesday in federal court in Portland to block Wildlife Services from culling Oregons cougar population...

It would have been easier to wave a picture of Hillary in front of the cat, that would have cleansed the back yard for months, almost rendering uninhabitable.
Ping!
Enviro wackos filing another lawsuit against culling problem cougars.
That's extreme cruelty to animals.
You have friends in green places.
Yes, not to mention the vegetation. Now imagine a Hillary White House populated with Clinton minions.... I shudder at the mere thought.
Better to shoot it in the face with a shotgun.
That would be the first step towards improvement. Even plastic surgery couldn’t save a face like that, just short of joint compound and and a belt sander, a shotgun would most certainly be easier.
Man’s best friend indeed.
Better to shoot it in the face with a shotgun.
Careful, you shouldn't threaten Hillary in that way!!!!! ; )
AND, they taste just like chicken.
Ha! I’ve eaten cougar ham and it wasn’t bad but it didn’t taste like chicken. :)
Not the cougars, the greenies. I would never eat my own.
An American Bulldog. I don't blame the cat for being scared.
LOL...Gotcha. Maybe if a few greenies were eaten by cougars they’d stop filing lawsuits. We can always hope.
I’ll talk to my boyz. We’ll see what we can do. They a flighty little critters though.

You two are projecting.
Am not... just saying... give ugliness a chance.
Hillary is having a great deal of trouble campaigning in some parts of the west. The airports aren’t equipped for single seat broomstick landings.
