Hey gang,
Can anyone recommend a good air cleaner/air purifier for someone suffering from dust allergy? )As opposed to pollen, animal dander, etc.) And if you can't recommend one could you point me in the right direction?
The air purifier wouldn't be for the basement, garage, or anything like that. It would be for the bedroom, living areas...we're talking about 1K sq.feet, give or take.
Took a look on the web and discovered there are about 10 trillion of these purifiers, and, naturally each one claims to be "the best". I don't mind spending a little money (say under $400) if it will buy me something that works.
As always, thanks... --YD
I have a Hunter Quietflo...around $225.00. works good.
Can’t go wrong with the Honeywell brand. HEPA is the best technology this. Check manufacturer’s website for sizing information then shop online for best price.
We have 3 Hunters in the house, all with HEPA filters. IIRC we got all 3 from Sam’s for less than $200.
You will never get rid of dust unless you live in a plastic bubble.
I really like the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze. It’s well made, easy to clean, and cuts down on the dust in a normally dusty area. What finally fixed my allergy problem though was dust mite proof pillow case covers.
I do not know if you are aware that air purifiers don’t really “purify” the air in your home all that well?
Tests have revealed that even the most pricey models only have an efficacy running about 5 to 10% of the pollution in your home.In addition each unit can only cover about 200Cft
Therefore you would need about 5-6units each costing $200-$400 to provide the area coverage you estimate that you need.(Remember A/C is a 3D bidness,so we always calculate by volume.)
Factor in that, each unit requires that you replace the main and pre filter monthly which runs about $30 per unit.
If you have a central air system or a blown air furnace then it may behoove you to have a cheaper and more effective whole house electronic air cleaner installed. All the major A/C companies feature them in their inventories and manufacturers like Honeywell make some excellent after OEM sales units.
They are priced from $200 to $800.s and feature a multi-stage air cleaning system with two germ reducing technologies to help reduce harmful indoor airborne particles in your room.
Initally your polluted indoor air is drawn into the air purifier from your return duct. It first moves air through dual UV lamps to help reduce airborne germs, such as bacteria, virus and fungus as well as mold spores from the air passing across them.
Then it then passes through a pre-charging ionization plate, a pre-filter and the main filter which all help capture airborne particles such as dust, smoke, pollen, and cat dander. Any remaining bacteria and virus are also captured in the many flutes of the permanent washable filter giving you a second level of protection.
Have they improved those...or are they still like that?
Talk to your allergist....assuming you’re seeing one.
Oreck, a thousand times over, Oreck. Yes.
Worked for me.
