Does supporting government-funded social services make one a good person?

No, it’s more likely to make one a political party hack since those “social services” mean jobs that are safe, soft and well paying at the administrative level.

Yes, because it means YOU CARE!! And why shouldn’t CARING people get well-paying, tax-funded jobs?

I care about poor people, and I understand that they have to grow up, get a job, and stop depending on Uncle Sam. Welfare is the stupidest idea ever, because all it does is keep people poor.

It's not just poor people I care about, but anyone down on his luck. That is what welfare, & these programs, are for -- not as a lifestyle or financial package.

The government should provide a safety net. Some of us, G-d forbid, might need it some day. Same with charity organizations. They should only be there either as a helping hand or a last resort.
