Followers of the weekly Geopic will know that Iceland has quite a few picturesque waterfalls. But this one just makes my eyes widen a bit. Two pictures for demonstration. The first is a reduced-size desktop; click for full size. I guess they won't mind advertising.

According to what little I can determine from the German on the page from whence this comes: Der Wasserfall Dynjandi, it's on the side of a fjord.

Depends. Could be there never were trees at this place.
Iceland has some trees. They have planting programs. When the vikings came there were trees, mostly birches. Used them up for things like charcoal and rafters.

Volcanic rock doesn't harbor much fertile soil.

Followers of the weekly Geopic will know that Cogitator's got a soft spot for *basalt*. :P Great pics. I'd love to visit there, too... in the summer. GoogleEarth pics show campsites on the beaches. That'd be fun.

Yeah. He's just a basalt of the earth type... Well rounded individual, and travels in the best circles but now has a small bulge right under his equator, and tends to be a bit hot under that thin crust of his.
Oh. Wait. Where we talkin' about cogitator? Or Sweetpertator?
