The Prayer Room: Praying for America, FR, and all who need it
Various | 11/8/06 | Knitting a Conundrum

Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

Psalm 127:1
>

At this time, when feelings run high, the world seems crazy, and anger seems to be the one thing the peoples of the world have in common, I invite you, my fellow FReepers, to join me in prayers and meditation for guidance, God's help and for our fellow man, for America, our troops,  and all our own needs.

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

William Bradbury

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

Psalm 46: 1-3

Psa 69:13 But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.

Thank you Father for the encouragment of many praying together for this nation and your people in it.

Father protect us from the arrow that flies by noonday. Protect our troops wherever they serve and our leaders in office.

Psa 90:1 A Prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Psa 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Amen

Holy Lord,

We are heartbroken and downtrodden because of the recent turn of events in the nation's political scene. We have seen opportunities for blessing and righteousness ignored and potential victories slip by as water through our hands. We failed to stand by the principles You gave us, Lord, and not only did we lose a major battle, we failed to advance in the war for the heart and soul of America. Forgive us, Lord, for our individual contributions to this failure. We acknowledge You as King and as the only true Source of help. We cannot figure this out for ourselves, Lord. It is beyond us. You, O God, are able to make sense out of this mess we have made. Draw us back, Father, to Your Word and Your teachings, for they are the foundation upon which we must stand. Be near us, Lord, and help us to stand strong in Your Name and in the Name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

Father, please protect us from those that threaten destruction. Who breathe out threats against your people....there is nothing new under the sun.....

2Ki 19:14 Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the LORD and spread it before the LORD.
2Ki 19:15 And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD and said: "O LORD the God of Israel, who is enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth.
2Ki 19:16 Incline your ear, O LORD, and hear; open your eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God.

Oh Lord, hear the words of those who mock you and threaten us and Israel in these days. Let it be as in the days of Hezekiah that you fight for us again. Let your Name be exhalted.

I agree with my sister that your Word always performs that which it is sent to do and will not return to you void.

amen

Evening prayer bump!

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Matthew 11:28-30

My Jesus, I trust in Thee

My Jesus, I trust in thee,
even as the darkness gathers.
My Jesus, I trust in thee,
even as the storm clouds deepen.
My Jesus, I trust in thee,
even when the lightning threatens.

My Jesus, help me trust in thee,
even though my heart quakes.
My Jesus, help me trust in thee
even though you may seem far way.
My Jesus, help me trust in thee,
even though evil seems near.

My Jesus, may I trust in thee,
even when sorrow breaks my heart.
My Jesus, may I trust in thee,
even in the darkness of my grief.
My Jesus, may I trust in thee,
even when I don't understand why.

Isaiah 40: 28-31

28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

"The trial of your faith."
- 1 Peter 1:7

Faith untried may be true faith, but it is sure to be little faith, and it
is likely to remain dwarfish so long as it is without trials. Faith never
prospers so well as when all things are against her: tempests are her
trainers, and lightnings are her illuminators. When a calm reigns on the
sea, spread the sails as you will, the ship moves not to its harbour; for
on a slumbering ocean the keel sleeps too. Let the winds rush howling
forth, and let the waters lift up themselves, then, though the vessel may
rock, and her deck may be washed with waves, and her mast may creak under
the pressure of the full and swelling sail, it is then that she makes
headway towards her desired haven. No flowers wear so lovely a blue as
those which grow at the foot of the frozen glacier; no stars gleam so
brightly as those which glisten in the polar sky; no water tastes so sweet
as that which springs amid the desert sand; and no faith is so precious as
that which lives and triumphs in adversity. Tried faith brings experience.
You could not have believed your own weakness had you not been compelled
to pass through the rivers; and you would never have known God's strength
had you not been supported amid the water-floods.
Faith increases in solidity, assurance, and intensity, the more it is
exercised with tribulation.
Faith is precious, and its trial is precious too.

Let not this, however, discourage those who are young in faith.
You will have trials enough without seeking them: the full portion will
be measured out to you in due season.
Meanwhile, if you cannot yet claim the result of long experience, thank
God for what grace you have; praise him for that degree of holy confidence
whereunto you have attained: walk according to that rule, and you shall
yet have more and more of the blessing of God, till your faith shall
remove mountains and conquer impossibilities.

...Psalm 84:12 - O Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

1 Peter 5:7 - Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

I love what one devotional says about casting or throwing our cares on Him...

THROW: to cause to fly through the air by releasing from the hand while the arm is in rapid motion.

CAST: to hurl with force.

I love the Phillips translation of IPeter 5:7 You can throw the whole weight of your anxieties upon Him, for you are His personal concern (phillips).

Trusting Him tonight for my family, my life, our President, and our country.

The Drum

The drum is sounding in the night,
O listen to it beating,
a dark foreboding heart it throbs
Without a moment's ceasing.

When Eve chose dark instead of light
The first stroke hit the skin,
When Adam joined his choice with her,
The rhythm then began.

The choice was made, the beat began
To echo to the ending
The world was torn with sin of man
The dark beat never ceasing.

Abel's blood cries in the night,
Listen to it moaning,
Violence at another's hands
Without a word of warning.

Lust and pride and greed march on,
like some perverted treasure,.
And anger hurls them all along
Its army without measure.

But a whispered hope came with the fall
Of someone who would come
And heal the breach and make things whole
And still the beating drum.

He came as to us as babe in arms
crying in the night,
The answer to our spirit's woe
the one to make things right.

With his own heart's blood he made
The salve to make men whole,
To bind up all the wounds of sin
That terrify the soul.

The time of healing nears each day
that passes through our hand,
The drumbeat grows more frenzied now
As the clock runs out of sand.

And when the last grain passes through,
with maddening cacophony,
Abel's blood will moan no more,
And the drumbeat cease to be.

And when the last beat of that drum
echos in the night,
He will bring the morning sun
Renewed, and clear and bright.

2Co 12:9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Father, we know we do your will in praying together as you commanded us in your word. Though we are few, you hear us and move in POWER.

1Jo 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
1Jo 5:15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

May we please you with faith and confident trust in your word. We ask for rest and help. Comfort those in pain and trouble and need. You satisfy us and delight us with joy.
amen
