Since so many here want so much to forgive Mel Gibson for his anti-semetic tirade and beligerent behavior towards law enforcement I was trying to come up with the best punishment. I think I got it. Besides the obligatory fine, I think the Judge should sentence him to 500 hours community service at the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust. What do you all think his sentence should be?

Because, historically, words have led to pogroms.
My own suggestion was that he was simply running his mouth using one of his father's rants that he learned as a young whippersnapper.
I've seen drunks come out with spiels like this before ~ usually about different topics ~ ask around at your next adult education session or encounter group ~ something like that ~ and I'm sure you'll find other people who have seen this happen.
What I wonder about is why the cops in LA who all have tv and sound systems in their cars would write down notes about what he was saying. Just play the tape.
Maybe you should try reading some HISTORY BOOKS and then you won't appear so incredibly dumb when you post.

The public will judge Mel for what he said .. other then that .. he will only be charged with a DUI
Of course he will be charged with a DUI, but part of a first time DUI sentence is jail time or community service. So I was just making a suggestion for his community service...but hey...maybe he'd rather go to jail.

I think Gibson's punishment should be, a visit to the death camps of WWII. My father help liberate one, it was a real eye opener.

That is exactly what I was thinking. He should not get special treatment, but I also don't want them to "make him an example" by coming down much harder on him than any "average Joe".
Flogging, the stockades where spittle can be deposited upon his head, or refusing rent any of his movies or purchase them on pay per view.
Other than that, I'm open to gentle suggestions.

When I was in fourth grade, I read The Chosen. It made me want to be Jewish for some reason. The nuns made us read Ann Frank's diary. I already read it and started keeping a diary because she did. I thought I knew holocaust history till I met petronski and saw his giant library of books. The point I'm trying to make is that some people read and are educated. Others, either don't because they don't want to know, don't care or are just ignorant through no fault of their own.
Do you people live in this country or what? How many people have to go to sensitivity training etc for the things they say.

Got plenty of non-drunks doing this in my position. If you feel threatened by an apologetic drunk, shoot him yourself if he comes for you. Otherwise the DUI laws are sufficient, PC punishments are for losers.
Yes I'm sure some do but I don't believe for a second this was BS. It's years of programming by his father.
It's not the words of drunks that Jews had to fear the most; rather, it was the orders of the lords to their minions to rouse the mob.
